Ron Dawn is the new coach at Newport Central Catholic

Jimmy and the Meyer crew will never coach anywhere else. They coach at NewCath for their love of the Breds.

Ron Dawn, such a tired, old answer............really? He's what you want?

Is anyone headed with Grant to Walton? How do the 2 staffs at NCC and Walton shake out after all this?

If Brannen is lucky, Coach Sturgeon will stay at WV. He knows all the players, has coached them on the way up and they respond to his style. The only problem is I hear from those in the know that his name is on the short list for a number of local head coaching jobs.

I don't root for NCC, but how can you knock Dawn as the coach? The guy won NCC's only boys title in the last 28 years, and also won a title coaching the girls team. He does a great job. He brings intensity and he knows how to coach basketball.

No knock on talent, just old and tired answer! New blood brings new things.

Put me with G1 and many others on the RD Bandwagon, he is the perfect hire for NCC in my opinion.

Wow, are you outscooping the press?

When the Kentucky Post disappeared along with Terry Boempker Northern Ky sports has never been covered worth a darn. The tiny part of the new paper covering North Ky Sports is a complete joke. This site is the place to find out what is going on.

New Cath just got a whole lot better with bringing Mr Dawn back.

NCC basketball program is in good hands for quite a few years. Coach Collopy is the coach of the future. Being on the bench with Coach Dawn for a few years will only make him more prepared when the day comes for him to take the reigns. Anyone who knows Kenny knows he is going to be a fantastic head coach someday.

I don't see anyone coaching New Cath but a New Cath grad. Is Mr Callopy a NCC grad? If not looks like he will be moving to yet another school.

If Ron Dawn were available he would be hired in a heartbeat by anyone with an opening.

To answer your question, he is exactly what they want.

Rob Detzel is a CovCath grad and he coached NCC. Other than him, you are pretty spot on and would need to go back quite a way to find a non-NCC alum as the coach. Gary Schulte is St. Thomas grad and he is likely the last non NCC alum prior to Detzel.

I don't completely agree. Grant has not been appreciated by a lot of people. Whether it is age or whatever.

True. He was at NewCath for a long time though before taking over. I believe that Wa Wa means that NewCath will never hire a "new" coach. They'll either be alums, or on the current staff.

Is Kenny a teacher?

Yes. He is an English teacher.
