I heard at a basketball game that Vonhadorf (sp) is leaning toward just playing basketball at CovCath, any truth to this rumor?

I heard at a basketball game that Vonhadorf (sp) is leaning toward just playing basketball at CovCath, any truth to this rumor?

 

I know people are saying he is the next big thing, but is he that good? Meaning so good that he is confidently a next level basketball player. If not, then I say it is a mistake giving up other sports. If he is that good and he has the size, then hopefully it works out for him.

Unknown. I've heard that basketball is his first love and clearly he's terrific at it. Hopefully he and the CCH coaches come to an agreement on how he can pull of both sports while having fun and being successful doing so.

Bottom line for me- this state is full of 6-2, 6-3 guards. Not too many QB's with his size and potential skill set though. I honestly think this kid could be a candidate for Mr Football if he sticks with it. If not I'll be happy for him anyway as he's a great kid with a good head on his shoulders.

Saw him play basketball this year and was very impressed with how he handled himself on the court, I have not had the opportunity to see him play football, but heard that he is very good to say the least. I agree with you 100%, to many 6'2" guards and not enough spots to go around at the next level to give up football. Play both and have fun.

Freshman threads are always interesting to read. The enthusiasm and big dreams abound. Freshman ball is where talent still wins the vast majority of the time. Any projections of what freshmen who have not even played a freshman game together will do when they are seniors get a chuckle out of me. I have been right there as well, singing freshmen praises as the next best thing. But so much happens and players develop and grow differently over those 10-12 years that it is fools gold to put expectations for senior year results on unproven freshmen.

 

My unsolicited advice - back your boys, praise them when they have success on the field and just enjoy the ride. Don't hang visions of grandeur on them but keep big goals in front of them. Let them prove to everyone who they are and don't get caught up in the spitting matches - and there will be plenty of them when you have success. Focus on the kids and ignore the naysayers. Do this and I predict you will get the most enjoyment out of these four years of high school football.

I remember singing the praises of the Cooper boys as Frosh a few years ago and as Senior's they made the State Finals so sometimes it works out, but as a whole, I agree with you.

As a mom of a Senior and Freshman, football players, I could not agree more. This is a great class with great talent and I am excited to watch them this year and beyond.

But there is so much that can happen. Some kids that are studs as Freshman can be injured or quit football to focus on another sport.

 

On the other hand, stars can develop. Ethan Egbers set receiving records at CCH and, if I remember correctly, didn't score his first Varsity TD until his Senior year (and what a year he had).

 

Coach Wirth has these boys on a great path. It's going to be a fun ride!

I agree in that success measured in wins and loses can be fools gold. The success of of your program starts at the freshman level and it is vital to every program. The programs that develop more than 7-8 kids at this level will be the teams successful at the varsity level. I once had a varsity coach tell me he had a freshman coach ask him what he was supposed to do with all of his smaller players. The varsity coach responded I want you to teach them the way we play football because in 2 years when they have grown 8 inches and put on 60 pounds of muscle they will be my starters. Give me a late bloomer who competes even when he is at a physical disadvantage allow him to grow and mature and he will a great asset to your team.

No clue on him being out but he did suffer an injury at NKU.
