So you didn't enjoy watching Kelan Martin dominate the paint? He was the best player on the court in that game.

Let's not pretend Omar plays any different than the other best players. He can be as wild as the rest of them. I do think we found out why he is going to William &Mary and not a higher d1 school. How rough Ballard was will be the norm in college and he can't compete at that level. But as a high school player, it was a great ride and he deserves all the accolades he recidivism. I hope he has a great college career.

 

If Snider and Holland shoot even halfway decent, Ballard would have won going away.

Snider is a great player but he needs to get in the gym and get stronger. Or he will get lost quick. Same goes for Omar Prewitt.

As far as the quality of play, I want the best players on the floor taking over at crunch time. That's what we've seen in the past few days, and it lends itself to high drama. Good stuff.

 

The days of a team running motion for a minute before finding an open shot are long gone. You barely even see hi-lo anymore these days. More often than not, HS offenses resemble what you see on NBA Sundays.

 

The play is physical these days -- more so than ever before. Actually, it looks like the rest of the state has caught up with what I've seen in the 5th Region for several years now. In a state tourney situation, where you're bringing in officials from across the state who most likely have never worked with each other, it just adds to the physical play.

 

Plus, if they were to call everything, HS games would last 2 hours. Do we really want that? Or would we rather prepare the kids for what they're going to see at the next level in terms of style of play?

As far as the game goes, Ballard was cruising along when they were pounding it inside. MC came back when Ballard got away from the interior play. When they got back to hogging it in to Martin, they took control again.

 

I was sure that Ballard was in big trouble when Prewitt hit the B-2-B threes and got the partisan crowd into it. But they handled it where Hoptown could not, and that's why they have one more game to play.

I'm proud of the boys tonight. They played their hearts out the whole tournament and made a little school history in the process. The play was physical and while I do love a physical game as when I played if you didn't draw blood, there wasn't a foul...it did at times get out of hand. (Please keep in mind I said "at times.") My only concern during games such as this is the safety of the players involved. Otherwise, bring it on honey!!

 

As with Omar, he is a candidate for Mr. Basketball for a reason and trust me, his college (if they are smart) will treat him to several jars of peanut butter or an all you can eat buffet I pray he does well there.

Some of the roughing up Omar did to himself. He sold out on the block that left him horizontal. And the fall was very hard. Tough kid. He will make W&M a fine player. I thought Jones was outstanding also. He was a difficult matchup for Snider. And if there's another frosh better than Dow, I'd like to take a look at him.

OK, I'll say it.

 

While the scoreboard says these are great games, the quality of play displayed is abysmal. Before anyone says the officiating was lousy in either of the semi-finals, the games are unofficiatable. Run, gun, put your head down, crash into somebody, knock each other down going for rebounds. Shoot the 3 at first opportunity, reach in, attack the rebounder, push ball-handlers, and on and on and on.

 

I respect the athleticism. Some of it is awesome! BUT, is it ALL about athleticism??? I guess so.

 

There have to be others besides myself who think that this is a really BAD product.

 

105 shots taken between the two teams tonight. 16 offensive rebounds for Ballard, 6 for MoCo in the fourth quarter. Turnovers - 16 for Montgomery Co in the fourth quarter. Source - My memory and the Kentucky Broadcast Network. How many free-throws shot in this one???

 

I guess this is what it takes to get to the finals. For me, No Thanks!!!

 

I totally agree with you Mustang. When you are actually at the games like I have been in past years you get swept up in the environment,etc and things seem totally different. But these games are unwatchable on TV, turnover after turnover. Like watching AAU games just up and down the court. Doesn't seem like Coaching is involved whatsoever. People will say they don't like the NBA and then they praise this style which is exactly the same. C'mon.

Agree on Dow. I know I will be keeping up with this kid the next 3 years.

 

To the MoCo Indinas and fans. It has been a great journey and I know you have enjoyed the ride. Didn't end as you liked, but what a journey. Memories you can look back on in the coming years. You did the 10th region proud.

 

Omar, so proud of you. It has been a honor and joy to watch you the last several years. You went from a lanky kid in JR high to a Mr. Basketball finalists. Best of luck at the next level.

Thanks! That did play a big part as well as a friend from Lexington Catholic is joining him. And I believe maybe a challenge. I do not believe W&M has ever been to the big dance.
