Has Chuck Smith applied at Henderson County?

I would like to see this thread as somewhat serious. I have seen Coach Smith threads on here and they start out serious and then kind of turn into a joke fest. If Coach Smith has indeed applied its going to be hard to find another coach who has a resume like him and should be a favorite for the job. I think this job can be a really good job. Of course you have to deal with Trinity and Saint Xavier but I there are some years Henderson County could play with those schools. Maybe not beat them but give them a game.

I have talked to several people and they all have confirmed that Coach Smith has indeed applied for the Henderson County job.

I will second this. I did not know the answer when I started the thread but I just got confirmation too that Coach Smith applied at Hendo.

This is very interesting. I really like Josh Boston and was hoping he would get it but with Smith applying the administration would be foolish if they didnt offer it to him.

Smith wants to be paid 70,000 (teacher/coach) and do nothing but coach. Schools just won't do it. It is the reason Smith isn't at Dunbar. It's the reason he isn't at Ashland. It's the reason he isn't at Boone. My guess is he won't be at Hendo for the same reason.

Will he be anywhere then?

Sure they do. By "do nothing but coach" he wants an ISS, Homebound, Weight Lifting, Drivers Ed, etc type day where it allows him to do the things he needs to do football wise. Heck, administrators don't get into administration because they love being in the classroom (but, that's a whole different topic I can rant on).

70K to teach/coach isn't that far fetched. Truth be told, there are more out there with these types of set ups than people think (the pay obviously determines each's own rank and years).

He has 25 years in I believe & his rank 1, which I haven't looked at Hendo's pay scale, but I would think that alone would put him in the neigborhood of 55K alone; then you throw in the 12-15K that Henderson pays altogether for coaching and there is your 70K (and, maybe then some).

Truth be told, he just wants the same type of job that Clevenger had. Henderson did it for him, I don't know why they wouldn't do it for Smith.

Tom Duffy did study hall the whole time he was here. Duffer taught biology but he was the exception. When BT Wayne was the baseball coach he taught PE. When it was cold or raining we played basketball. When it was warm enough to go outside and it wasn't raining we played softball while he worked on the baseball field.

^^ I had an administrator tell me one time (a very good administrator who created as much excitement about academics as any I've ever seen, but also understood the importance of a strong athletic program in the development of an overall school culture, in particular football) that "You can be a great teacher & you can be a great coach, but you can't be both at the same time."

Now, this administrator didn't allow their football and basketball coaches to hang out in the coaches office all day doing nothing. They actually taught (all be it until 11:30 or so, the the rest of the day was a weightlifting class mostly of their players followed by a planning or ISS).

I think that is a very accurate statement, too.
