March 8, 201313 yr Author Goodwin will charge & knock the ladder down, Harrow will take a step up & miss, Poythress will be too lazy to climb, and Wiltjer will try to guard the ladder & get beat?? Ouch!!!
March 8, 201313 yr This season is on Cal the Recruiter and not Cal the Coach. With all of the success they had last year and concentrating on keeping the winning going, it makes me wonder if they didn't let some recruiting slip through the cracks. Tubby's tenure starting slipping when his assistants got lazy and didn't follow up on the recruiting trail and lost out. Not to mention recruiting a few clunkers that didn't pan out. Poythress didn't become lazy once he got to UK. Goodwin didn't become an out of control bulldozer once he got to UK. Harrow didn't become soft and make bad decisions once he got to UK. Someone had to see these traits coming from afar. Did Cal and staff rely more on recruiting service stars than watching film or doing their recruiting homework because of the amount of work that was put into last season? While Cal has brought in top-flight talent to UK, he's brought in some clunkers too. He decided to keep Orten when he arrived at UK and that didn't pan out well. He recruited Stacey Poole and brought in Eloy Vargas. Vargas was decent at times. And of course, Kanter was never eligible. Why bring in Twany Beckham if you aren't going to play him any? But a team full of clunckers? Not a good mix. No depth. Hard to coach. No heart. No fight. That's on Cal the Recruiter. It will likely change next year, but then again, we thought UK would be just fine after a class that included Noel, Goodwin, and Poythress
March 8, 201313 yr If Harrow is still at UK next year, will he get as many minutes as Beckham got this year? No, both the Harrison twins are better than Harrow right now. I just hope that Cal doesn't get the same attitudes as Harrow, Poythress and Goodwin.
March 8, 201313 yr Yes, I was just thinking. Last year we saw the best of the Cal recruiting approach. This year we are seeing the worst of it. I think that Cal messed up by thinking that Harrow would get him through this season with all the talent coming at guard next season. After all, Harrow was here and practiced all last season with that team of champions. Harrow knew what it took and what was expected. Cal probably should had went after Smart (Ok. State PG) and would have had a much better team but that's pretty easy to say now. I wonder when we will hear the "FIRE CAL" calls? Somewhere you know that there will be some of "those people" sounding off.
March 8, 201313 yr Not Jerry Tipton @NotJerryTipton When Mitch Barnhart hired Mark Stoops, he said his goal was to turn Kentucky into a football school. Damned if he wasn't right. :ohbrother: :isurrender:
March 8, 201313 yr Author This season is on Cal the Recruiter and not Cal the Coach. Last year during the season I'm willing to bet that Cal expected Teague to return. That would have provided the point guard play that they needed. But unexpectedly, because of the great tournament run, Teague left earlier than Cal expected, and it fell to Harrow. Then, losing Nerlens was another major detour in the "Repeat Express". I can't expect Cal to recruit that much redundancy to make up for those huge losses.

March 8, 201313 yr This UK team has no heart or desire to win period. When UK was on probation back in the day those teams played with more heart and desire than this team. I still love the CAT's and will watch them to the end. I still have a little faith for a big game at home Saturday and in the SEC tournament. Last night was just so embarrassing to watch two really bad team's play. I wish them the best Saturday and in the SEC tourney. GO CAT'S !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! JD
March 8, 201313 yr Goodwin will charge & knock the ladder down, Harrow will take a step up & miss, Poythress will be too lazy to climb, and Wiltjer will try to guard the ladder & get beat?? I don't care who you are, that's funny stuff right there.
March 8, 201313 yr Goodwin might be a bulldozer but at times last night it looked like he was the only man left standing. Maybe the other guys knew he wouldnt pass but it did look like he cared.
March 8, 201313 yr Just my thoughts: I have compared this team to the Jorts/Brandon Knight led team, and there are two huge differences between these two teams...1st the current verson of the Wildcats have zero reliable guard play. The second is what Coach Cal has been saying for the past few weeks, not much fight in this group. While the 2010/2011 Cats lost their fair share of games, they were always battleing until the last shot, because they had a guard in Brandon Knight who could score just about whenever he wanted to. This team currently is young and the first 3 Coach Cal teams are not the norm for young teams, but this team I believe is just a victum of the past success. Thinking because their jersey says Kentucky that teams are going to lay down for them...not exactly how it works on any level when you're on top. If they can beat Florida then hope comes back, but I'm not sure they deserve the opportunity to play for the National Championship.
