March 31, 201313 yr Not disagreeing with your feelings on the Bengals in FA. However a team can improve by retaining their players if said players get better. hopefully every player in the NFL improves, so that means the Bengals improved the least than any other team that actually went out and got a better player.
March 31, 201313 yr From Bengals.com Terence Newman has said he wanted to play for a contender and Mike Zimmer. In the end, it had to be Cincinnati and Newman tweeted as such late Friday night after reaching what is believed to be a two-year deal in the $5 million range with $3 million in 2013. And from Newman's twitter account via PFT: “After much time and thought, I’m heading back to Cincy. And for those of you who think it was about money, the Raiders offered more,” Newman wrote. “I came in with Mike Zimmer and feel its only right that I leave as him coaching me. Thanks to Raiders Nation for showing me such love.” Good re-sign by the Bengals. Newman did well for the Bengal secondary last season. As for the scope of Bengal free agency Guru you know my thoughts. They get a C-/D+ in my book. Their putting a lot of pressure on a draft class yet to be determined.
April 1, 201313 yr Here is the biggestg problem I have with how the Bengals run their off seasons. Ok, everyone seems to be of the understanding that the Bengals are not paying big bucks for a FA this year because they have to have money to sign Geno, and AJ next year to a long term contract. A couple problems I have with that scenerio.... 1. Every Team has to spend up to a certain amount up to the caop this season. So the Bengals have to spend the money whether they like it or not. So why not get a couple big time FA's with the money they have and have to spend anyway? 2. IF they choose not to go out and lure a big impact player here with the money they have, then why not get AJ and Geno's contract done now instead of waiting until after next season when they will most deffinatley be spending more for both players than if they signed them now? The Bengal;s always wait until the last minute to re-sign their own and they end up spending even more than they would of if they took care of it earlier. They are not very smart in my book.
April 1, 201313 yr hopefully every player in the NFL improves, so that means the Bengals improved the least than any other team that actually went out and got a better player. Every player will not get better. Some will stay the same. Some will decline. In some areas, the Bengals are very young and talented. They can easily improve through hard work and simply maturing physically. Where I will agree with you on bringing in a FA or two, are in the areas they aren't so talented. No way they fill the gaps soley in the draft. I would have liked to at least seen a WR brought in, and perhaps an RB. they are saying they are going to draft an RB early. That doesn't usually work out for them.

Maybe you need to know how things work first. The Bengals can't even try to extend Green until after this season anyways, and honestly Atkins agent probably doesn't want to extend now, and probably knows by waiting would get even more money for his player and him. There is a reason why you don't see players on their rookie contracts get extended until basically their contract is a year away from being up. Its not just the Bengals, thats all team when it comes to players on rookie contracts.
April 2, 201313 yr Browns and Ravens are doing it right. Browns and Ravens are doing it right? When is the last time a team has done very well the next season after doing great with signing free agents from other teams? Last years big winners in free agency was Tampa Bay, that didn't even help get them into the playoffs. To many people are obsessed with change. In football it is good to keep your own and build through the draft if you have good young talent to build off of which the Bengals do. This is not like baseball and the Reds where you also need to go to free agency to add a missing piece or two. In baseball when you draft people you might not see that player until the earliest of 3 years later. In football when you draft players they can impact your team that year. So if you have talent and you keep it intact, and keep adding pieces through the draft then you are getting better and are building a team that could be good for the long term. I admit there were a few people I would have loved to seen the Bengals at least try to get. However this is one off season where I didn't see to many people where if we brought them in and lost another player we could have signed of own, that would have been worth it. Not to many players out there that would have made them any better than what they are by keeping their own. Its smart to not give out the big contract for someone to have the money to sign geno, green, dunlap and possibly Dalton.

I will say this I can't argue against what the Ravens are doing, because they always make good decisions. However those good decisions were easy to make when you knew you had a defense and Rey Lewis and Ed Reed to go with it. Lets see if this free agency approach that the Ravens took this year ends up being good for them or not.

Thank you. SSo the Bengals had among the most under the cap this offseason, can you please shhow me how they spent that money to improve the team? Good luck.

Thank you. SSo the Bengals had among the most under the cap this offseason, can you please shhow me how they spent that money to improve the team? Good luck. Once again it takes two to sign a contract. Do you honestly believe an agent of a player would want a player to sign an extension really early when still on his rookie contract, when he knows that player will be in for an even bigger pay day if they wait in the case of Geno and Green? Once again that is why you don't see any like star player types extend their rookie contracts early until the year before their contract is up, so nice try on that one. Your re-structuring type deals that you talk about usually happen for players not on their rookie contracts, and if it does happen on a rookie contract its the year before their last year on the deal as I just said. They kept a top 10 defense in place, if they sign Smith they keep a young offensive line in place and a guy who was one of the best RT's in football according to the ratings. So yes not losing players and keeping a young team intact is improving a team. Then if you can add another starter here or there in the draft, you are improving. Then if you then still have the money from not overspending on guys who may or may not have helped your team out in free agency, so you can sign your own stars on your team after this year is improving your team. Can you please tell me some teams who went and did very well by doing very well in free agency by signing other teams players? How well has that worked for Dallas, the Redskins, Tampa Bay, etc? The Redskins couldn't make the playoffs until they started drafting well last year with some players. Hmmmm. Packers and Steelers are the perfect examples of what it takes to win. Now that the Bengals are actually drafting well, the philosophy they have is a good one.

April 7, 201313 yr Who did you want them to sign bro? Mike Wallace? Overpaid. Greg Jennings? Not coming here. Bush. Tried. Not coming here Its simple man he just wanted the Bengals to spend money, even though he doesn't seem to grasp that you don't need to just spend money just to spend money. Especially on players who might not make that big of a difference anyways. Some people have gotten so use to complaining about everything the Bengals do, that they have no idea how to act when they are actually doing things right. So they complain just to complain now.
