Blarge

Featured Replies

To be put bluntly, the blarge should never be allowed and is an admission of an error by the referees. It can only be block or a charge, never both. Either the lead ref has the final say or the 3rd referee should make the final call based in what he saw or based on the testimonies of the differing calls.

To be blunt....wrong. It is, and in fact can be, a simultaneous.

The 3rd official has nothing to do with this play at all and certainly should never be the ultimate judge and jury hearing testimonials.

One of the most stupid calls that can be made in a game.

I fully get the fan's perspective as common sense says it cannot be both. HOWEVA that's not as simple as it sounds when you have multiple people making a decision. It's ugly but the way they handle it now IMO is the only way to handle it.

I do chuckle at those who say have the 3rd guy be the tie-breaker RIGHT AFTER they yell that he made a call that wasn't in his area.

It's 100% on the officials but once it happens this is the only fair way to handle it.

Testimonies?

The 3rd guy probably had the worst angle yet we want him deciding?

A good pre-game among the officials could help in preventing this from happening!

I guarantee you they pre-gamed it. I've never been in a pre-game where it wasn't mentioned. Sometimes the brain locks OR the adrenaline is flowing.

Yes you can. It should be a blocking foul everytime. It should only be an offensive foul if the offensive player pushes off. Other than that it should be a blocking foul.

Great. How do you word that in the rulebook?

I get it that it is instructed to be called, I just don't think it should be part of the game. I also understand why the 3rd ref not being the tiebreaker when it is called.

What's the better solution?

Honestly Clyde, I have wanted to do away with the charge/block for years as I believe it is not called correctly/properly because it's too subjective. Just my opinion of course.

I hear that quite a bit but I just don't see how you take both out or just one out. You can't have bodies flying with no calls. You can't give one side the advantage. That's where I struggle and why I asked how you'd word the ruling regarding the block/charge. Easier said than done.

Yeah I agree with you that it is easier said then done. Just like to see a better game and again I don't think it is called correctly a lot of the time. But those are the rules and it is what it is I guess

I think a better solution would be to call a jump ball and no foul on either player. I would rather one too few fouls be called than one too many. JMO...

It was especially egregious last night because TWO guys fouled out on the same play...don't see that happen very often.

Rule 1:

If an offensive player pushes off it is an offensive foul. Other than that it is a foul on the defender.

Define "pushes off."
