2012-2013 All 8th Region Team

Featured Replies

by that logic the pre-season regional favorite could NEVER win COY.

You can say you expected them to be at the top of the region but hard to say they didn't exceed expectations going 27-1.

I would agree with you. It's very hard for the pre-season favorite to win coach of the year. Last year, Walton-Verona won the Class A Region, Class A State and won the 8th Region but Mark Clinkenbeard did not win the coach of the year. I would say that he should have won coach of the year however, some would say the they just met expectations.

Congrats to the players and Coach Howell! Well deserved!

27-1 is hard to argue with. Coach Kays is well deserving. I also believe Coach Stowers has done a great job for SK as well. Nothing wrong with Coach Howell either. We'll see who gets to cut the nets down in a couple of weeks though. That's the award they all really want.

Seems like Stowers is a candidate every year. Congrats to all these young ladies, especially Abby Owings!

Ditto with Weakside, good reasoning.

I agree with the pick of Coach Howell. However, I think Coach Higdon from S. Oldham would be a strong candidate. She's a first year coach (moved from JV), the team lost multiple good senior players, they played a gruesome early season schedule, and now are poised to make a run in the region. She has done a great job getting her team ready for tourney time. She's one that should at least be talked about when talking 8th COTY.

Victims of their own success? Well, maybe not - but the quality teams these gents put out on the floor year and year out may cause some folks to take for granted what they and their teams repeatedly do. It's pretty certain that they don't do what they do for COY awards.[/color]

Most coaches don't.
Congrats to Cann(PYO) and all the young ladies!! I bet the vote was very close between Cann and McKee. I was also surprised that the eighth region had only 1 invited to the all-star tryouts. Thought Wells and Sandlin would also have been invited.

The last time I checked, Grant County was still in the 8th region. Congrats to Billie Hearn on her invite to the all-star tryouts.

I believe that Billie Hearn was the player that "sportslady" was referring to. She is the only one invited from the 8th.

I thought the player of the year got an automatic invite. Which would make 2 from the 8th.

That is true. It is the player of the year award winner and the at large candidates.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I'm pretty sure Cann is a jr which would make her not eligible to tryout for team. Just shocking that kid can get at large invite to try out for KY team and not be selected for their all region team. Sounds political......just my opinion.

Correct me if I am wrong, but the KABC POY (which is a senior award) gets the automatic tryout, i think...

Yes, that is correct. Once the KABC releases their list, all will receive an automatic invite. Billie Hearn made the all-star list and the other is the KABC player of the year.
