February 4, 201313 yr Acutally according to Quick tip, these tips are low. I have know problem paying for service. Unless for some reason it was really, really bad. However, I got Quick tip because LN says I am overly unreasonable with tips. On the high side so I use Quick tip to check.
February 4, 201313 yr I was talking to a guy I know in DC who used to be the bar/restaurant manager at a Hyatt restaurant. He says that people "in the biz" are the best tippers. He said they usually tip 40%. As a whole, Kentuckians have a poor Reputation for tipping.
February 4, 201313 yr I like it. I will sometimes use tip calculator on my phone. 20-25% is usually where I am at.

February 4, 201313 yr Most Asian restaurants do..... I don't like it. I tip 20% virtually every time....if service is exceptional, I tip 30 - 40 % Part of being in the biz, I guess. Why don't you like it? What is the downside to it? We have a restaurant in town that shows these numbers. Question, are you supposed to tip on the amount pre-tax?

February 4, 201313 yr I think pre-tax. That is what I thought even though I always go by the full amount.
February 4, 201313 yr I don't have a problem with the putting the amounts at the bottom of the receipt but I can see some people seeing it as pushy or too forward or something like that. A few summers ago when I was in Nice, France, they add the service charge to everything, regardless to size of the party. It is generally customary to only add a Euro or two on top of that. If you add too much to the receipt some look at it as showing off. I thought that was odd.

When I was in England I got so accustomed to not leaving tips at bars or restaurants that carried over for a little while when I returned to the States. I remember one night having like a $90 bar tab and pulling the el stiffo as we call it. Totally innocent mistake but I was big time embarrassed.

You were just being European...and people say Americans so out of touch with the rest of the world... I always liked seeing the waiter reaction when we forgot the European standard and dropped a nice tip the first few days there. Then the local contacts would kick us into their normal standard.

A few places I went to they denied my tip. Especially at bars. Generally I would just leave at the most 1 pound, 2 maximum if there were a few of us.
