Im in Independence and we have this rule for a few months now. We use the one can they gave us a pay $12 a year for another so its not that big of a deal. In the letter we got when they switched to the new trucks it said you would be charged $10 for every item that does not fit into the cans. Pretty much BS if you ask me. When we but something that came in a large box I take the empty box to my inlaws in Bellevue who have real garbage service and can throw away anything they want. I also noticed one neighbor had garbage cans turned backwards at curb where front of can was not facing street and the garbage man took one look at it from inside his truck and kept on going.

 

Yikes...I missed that caveat. Guess I'll be seeing a bill for the bags of trash from Christmas. Awesome...:irked:

Another option if you have extra garbage once in awhile is to work out arrangements with your neighbors on either side. They might have some room in their cans for your extra bag or two. Unless, or course, you hate your neighbors (then my idea doesn't work)! In my subdivision in Taylor Mill, I don't have any issues currently with my Rumpke service. I guess it depends on the individuals in the truck.

 

I live in Taylor Mill as well, and while I have 2 bins, I've never had an issue either.

I have Bavarian. They rock!

I wont say its lazy as much as just a workers comp/EPA Hazmat thing. They dont want Garbage men/women touching stuff that could be dangerous that people throw out.

 

I doubt very seriously concern for workers' safety is the issue at hand as much as it is simply speed. Rumpke made a bid that said "we can cut the costs to the bare bones if you allow us to do this," and your city agreed, perhaps not realizing what extreme methods Rumpke would take to to slash costs and decrease the amount of time it takes to pick up a route.

Have you called and complained , both to the company and the city , Maybe you need another can or do they only empty 1 per household ?

I've heard the employees are actually contractors? They get paid by the pound they take to the dump? They would need to do their job based upon speed and efficiency if so? Anyone else ever hear this?

We have "Legacy" in Frankfort and they are terrible too. They kept moving in the truck while the can was being emptied, and when they set it back down they destroyed our dusk to dawn light pole by our driveway. They did pay for a new light that of course I had to install.

My in-laws have Rumpke over in Edgewood, and they will take everything. They put out a couch last month without calling, and they threw it in the back of the truck. Ours will not get out of the truck, unless the can is blocked, or if a bag might fall of a can.

 

Took my couch as well. Actually used the "claw" on the truck to crush the wood and then loaded it into the truck.

We have CSI in Southgate and have no problems with their service .
