Rumpke trash service

Featured Replies

Anyone have Rumpke trash service with their new automated trucks? If you don't yet, it sucks. If the garbage doesn't fit inside the Rumpke can, they won't take it. The drivers will not exit the truck to grab that extra bag. They will get out if you put that extra bag on top of the garbage can, but they'll sit it on the ground, take the can, and go. The first pick up after Christmas, I had a ton of garbage, just like everyone else. I sat it all on the curb, and they only took the can. They left the 6 other bags of garbage. When the recycle truck came about an hour later, he took everything, including these 6 bags that were obviously not recyclable materials, which I thought was odd considering they are strict on the materials they collect. This morning, I watched the garbage man get out of the truck and pick up the recycle can as it had blown over during the night in front of the trash can. He then proceeded to take the bag sitting on top of the trash can (the lid was open, I didn't have it sitting on a closed lid), set it on the ground, got back in his truck, and then picked up the can with the automated arm and left. He left the bag just sit there, along with another bag that was sitting next to the can that was blown off during the night. They jack up my rates to pay for these trucks, but then severely cut the service. They used to take everything I put out there.

Have you called and complained , both to the company and the city , Maybe you need another can or do they only empty 1 per household ?

Try tipping your G-Man. My guys will take anything I put out there. I only have 1 Rumpke can and usually have a couple more cans or bags they take with no issues.

I complained to Rumpke today after seeing the bag taken off my can and placed on the ground. They issue us 1 can, and then we can pay for another as we are only allowed to use their cans now. I can no longer use my cans that I bought from Home Depot that are identical to the Rumpke cans. I generally only fill the one can, but the weeks where we have a party, I will have more trash. It doesn't help that they only come once a week. I just had a sewage backup last week, and I had to take all of that stuff down to the local transfer station as I knew my garbage man would't take any of it, and it was $40 just to pull into the place.

The extra cans are $1 a month. Just pay the extra buck and get another can. Problem solved.

My in-laws have Rumpke over in Edgewood, and they will take everything. They put out a couch last month without calling, and they threw it in the back of the truck. Ours will not get out of the truck, unless the can is blocked, or if a bag might fall of a can.

Yeah, but put three of those cans in your garage with a car and kids' toys. I already have 2 cans in there as I have a regular and recycle. I rarely exceed the one can. I dont think it should be an issue for the garbage man to pick up that one extra bag once a month. My HOA will not allow me to keep my cans outside as they just sent me a letter last week as I had them sitting out for a week while refinishing some furniture in my garage.

Im in Independence and we have this rule for a few months now. We use the one can they gave us a pay $12 a year for another so its not that big of a deal. In the letter we got when they switched to the new trucks it said you would be charged $10 for every item that does not fit into the cans. Pretty much BS if you ask me. When we but something that came in a large box I take the empty box to my inlaws in Bellevue who have real garbage service and can throw away anything they want. I also noticed one neighbor had garbage cans turned backwards at curb where front of can was not facing street and the garbage man took one look at it from inside his truck and kept on going.

When I saw him get out of the truck and take the bag off the can and place it on the ground, it put me over the top. When we got that letter, I asked them if I could still use my current cans. The guy said no, they must be Rumpke cans only. He emailed me a week later asking me to send him a picture of my cans. I sent him the picture, and he responded saying that it wouldn't be an issue to continue to use my cans. That week, I put out the can along with my Rumpke can, and the garbage man put a sticker on it saying I couldn't use it. He left it sit full. I called Rumpke, and they said that it was up to the garbage man's discretion whether or not they could use the cans even though a gentleman at their office told me I could. It was an identical, 96 gallon can, just green instead of brown. At that point, I opted for the large recycle can, and we began recycling more.

1. So glad we dont have rumpke they suck

2. I love the new private company we have, they put the cans back where you put them, and on windy days will put the cans up near the shed.

I had 2 of the same large green cans from lowes that cost about 75 a piece if I remember right. When we got the letter I called too and told them i have cans pretty much the same just green and they are actually heavier and much more sturdy and only a few months old. They told me sorry but cant use them. I wasnt happy for sure!! It a sad day when garbage men become lazy.

I wont say its lazy as much as just a workers comp/EPA Hazmat thing. They dont want Garbage men/women touching stuff that could be dangerous that people throw out.

You may be right. When I think of a garbage man I think of a hard working person not afraind to get down and dirty. Now they sit in a nice clean truck sipping coffee and press a button. Just have to change my opinion.

I live at the end of a very narrow one lane road that is considered unicorporated county so I have to have a private residential contract with Rumpke. I have to say that I am very pleased with my trash service. Our trash man is an older fellow with a long white beard that makes him resemble Santa, he brings treats for my dog, goes out of his way to let me get by him when I leave for work and he will take anything you put out. I guess it just depends on the trash guy, the type of truck and the contract that you have with the city/county/private.

Another option if you have extra garbage once in awhile is to work out arrangements with your neighbors on either side. They might have some room in their cans for your extra bag or two. Unless, or course, you hate your neighbors (then my idea doesn't work)! In my subdivision in Taylor Mill, I don't have any issues currently with my Rumpke service. I guess it depends on the individuals in the truck.
