2013 NKY Freshman Invitational Tournament played at CovCath

I believe you said, or someone said last year, that BB didn't play due to scheduling problems.

As far as I know and you must understand I don't sit in on the scheduling and was in fact at the gym with the Varsity at practice during the draw but yours is a question for someone other than myself to answer!

Thanks for the scoop TOG . So who is the man or the committee that picks and chooses the teams?

Lots of teams excluded to call it a regional tourney. That is, unless some of the smaller schools don't field frosh teams or choose not to play in the event.

See my post #10 and my post #15 about the smaller schools!

BTW last year 2012 there were 17 teams in the Tourney and in 2011 there were 16! This year there are 18 teams, so are you both sure that anyone was excluded but instead opted out of playing?

I can't speak of 2010 or earlier but since I have been involved, the number of teams has only increased each year from 16 to now 18 teams!

This tournament field has been set for years. Brossart and Campbell opted out when they joined the 10th region and participated in their district and regional tournament.

The small schools opted out in the very late 90's when they invented their own small school tournament, which I thought was a good idea since it gave them an opportunity to end the year on a win. The small school tourney hasn't been played in a few years, and also had been played sparingly since 2002.

Therefore, this tournament has been an "invitational" since the days of the great Jack Kaelin. Scott and SK have participated each year since leaving the 9th Region and have fulfilled their commitments as far as scheduling, participation, etc.

TOG said it best, this tournament has grown each year since 2008, when Jack Kaelin stepped down as tournament director. I've been told gym availability is the biggest reason why the field is kept at, or about, the 16-18 number. The addition of WV only improves the field, as they've always put competitive teams on the court, plus their addition evens out the numbering.

Great event, but agree the name of the tournament is confusing. I've seen a couple of games in years past and must say Cov Cath (and company) does a great job running it. Does anyone have the past all tourney players for the last 3 years to see where are they today?

Thanks!

You can do a search on BGP's and find the information. It should be there near the end of each years thread!

Will be too busy over the course of the next couple of day with games on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday Friday and a day long marathron on Saturday.

If Holmes plays their stud freshmen, they are likely the favorite.

Brandon Moore, Stefan Greene, Ian Brolley, Brennon Englemon, Andrew Arnold, Lucky (can't remember his first name)

As I rule I say play whomever you want. However, my personal feeling is that if a frosh didn't play frosh ball during the season he shouldn't be playing - not for competitive reasons - for "doing it the right way" reasons.

I know Moore has been strictly freshman since coming back from the injury, along with Lucky. Englemon recently got moved up to jv.

Not sure but I think Brolley and Greene have played freshman ball all year too outside of when Holmes lost to Covcath with both at the jv level against Ryle.

Arnold was the only frosh to go to FL with Holmes.
