January 25, 201313 yr Author Like I said - CCL carries a lot of responsibility. A packed, crowed venue like a festival or a concert may well not be a place to carry. If you are coming into physical contact with others that is probably not good. But center for the arts? Black tie or jacket? Reasonable. Under shoulder holster should work fine and stay discrete. Friend who is former federal marshal said he had to quit carrying his .45 revolver when he was doing suit wearing duty as a marshal and switch to semi-automatic - he kept tearing suits when he would have to draw. Seems he had to that more frequently as a marshal than any average person would. See, that's my issue. While common sense dictates that carrying a gun in a packed, crowded venue is likely not a good idea, if an event is held in a city park, does the law apply? Or do the event organizers get to prohibit guns? And what if it's a community festival like Thunder Over Louisville? I don't see common sense prevailing in some. And it doesn't take the majority to lack common sense for disaster to ensue.
January 26, 201313 yr RM I understand your disdain for firearms also and that nothing any of say will change your mind, nor will you change ours. But your fear is very misguided. You have an unhinged fear of those that legally carry firearms- those of us that have CCDW (not CCL) permits are not the ones you should be worried about. I don't have the crime stats but I would venture that almost ALL gun crimes are committed by those illegally possessing guns, not you neighbors that took the time and money to attend the CCDW class and get cleared by the 7 separate background checks completed by the Kentucky State Police on every applicant for a permit. The fact that Kentucky has had open carry forever suddenly gives you pause and concern- Why now, Ky has had open carry for our entire lives...well at least as far as I can remember. You say someone almost drew a gun on you because you bumped into him...if I am carrying a gun and you bump into me I am not going to pull it on you, but the first thing I will do is put my hand on my firearm to ensure you or someone else did not take it pick pocket style by bumping me as a distraction. He may have been checking to ensure that his firearm was still in place, I would. If you had Superman vision I bet you would be surprised how many people you come in contact with that have a firearm on their person (legally) on a daily basis. Very few people actually open carry- those that do, again are not the people that you need to worry about these are not criminals. Direct your loathing towards those that are not enforcing the current laws that are on the books. Direct your loathing towards the over medicating of our youth with psychotropic drugs (the common denominator in almost all mass shooting episodes). Direct your loathing towards the field of psychiatry, in at least two of the recent shootings the doctors were aware that the shooter may act in this or a similar manner. If someone has 48 guns, they are probably a pretty responsible person, 48 of any type gun is a pretty expensive investment. You don't get that kind of collection not living a responsible life style.

I don't have disdain for fire arms. I have respect for their danger. No, it won't change my mind. I'm do not have an unhinged fear of legal gun owners who have sense and have safety first. I don't trust that is true of all legal gun owners, and the number of "accidental tragedies" that occur bear that out. I don't loathe anyone. As to owning 48 guns being expensive and indicative of responsibility, I would point out that many criminals own more than 48 guns, and I wouldn't think they're living responsibly. No, I won't change my mind, just as you won't. What I WILL do, though is accept the fact that people in the US have a right to own firearms, and accept it without rancor. What I won't budge on is my belief that we need background checks and safety training requirements, and much tougher laws relative to safe gun ownership. You guys always focus on mass shootings, especially those where kids are involved. My focus is on the number of kids who get killed because of irresponsible gun ownership. To me, a mass shooting is a tragedy, and stems from either a criminal intent, or mental illness of the shooter. A kid who kills himself or another because someone didn't secure their weapon properly is the result of criminally irresponsible gun ownership and completely preventable.
January 26, 201313 yr From Washington State. Island Politics · Oak Harbor City Councilman Rick Almberg walks out of City Council meeting. He refuses to follow his oath by supporting the laws of the State of Washington and our Washington State Constitution. "At last Tuesdays City Council meeting a citizen commented during the citizens comment period encouraging the City Council to support the Second Amendment and to help educate our children about firearms and firearm safety. In a rather disturbing display by Councilman Almberg this citizen was called back to the podium by Councilman Almberg and the councilman asked the Mayor to enquire if he was carrying a concealed weapon. After some discussion with the city Attorney about the legality of Councilman Almberg requesting a citizen return to the podium to be asked a question by the Councilman the citizen volunteered to answer any questions Councilman Almberg saw fit to ask him. After the citizens confirmed that he was lawfully and legally carrying a concealed weapon Councilman Almberg made a motion (during the citizens comment period yet) that he wanted to make a requirement that citizens coming to city council meeting check their firearms with either the police department or the Chief of Police before being allowed to attend the meeting. The Motion was seconded by Joel Servatius. After a long discussion the motion was presented for a vote with Councilman Almberg and Councilman Servatius voting yes and the remainder of the Council voted no. Immediately after the motion failed councilman Almberg excused himself and left the meeting." Video of meeting and events.
January 26, 201313 yr I don't have a disdain for guns. I have a more than healthy respect for the danger of guns. I don't know why you guys can't understand that I am not against guns. But I don't think everyone needs a gun, and I don't think guns need to be everywhere. It increases the danger of a gun incident. And frankly, I'm getting to the point where I think those of you who feel there should be no restrictions whatsoever on guns are more dangerous than the criminals! At least I can take precautions against the criminal element. You guys are where I eat, where my granddaughter will play, in the frickin' library, for Pete's sake. \ Since you didn't answer before when I asked.. Who do you think should be allowed to own guns? You say you don't disdain guns but I've never seen anything of the contrary on here...
January 26, 201313 yr Author Since you didn't answer before when I asked.. Who do you think should be allowed to own guns? You say you don't disdain guns but I've never seen anything of the contrary on here... I don't have a problem with people owning guns who have passed a background check, provided a mental health evaluation, who complete safety training for the types of weapons they own, are willing to "recertify" that training as long as they own the weapon, and are willing to accept the consequences if they don't use responsible gun ownership like safe storage, etc. Because I choose alternate methods of self-protection does not mean I have a disdain for guns. I believe strongly that the methods I choose are every bit as effective as gun ownership. I see no reason why I wouldn't advocate such as vigorously as you advocate gun ownership. January 26, 201313 yr Before this: Libraries, zoos, city halls, etc-could prohibit guns. Now: Libraries, city halls, zoos, etc-cannot prohibit open carry or weapons. Before this: The Louisville Zoo had a sign stating weapons must be secured in your vehicle. Now: They have to remove the sign because they have to allow you to carry your weapon in the zoo. Same for the library. And someone who had ill intent could still bring guns in either way. I would rather know that sane people could carry as well in the event that a crazy person decides to unload. There is at least an opportunity to limit the damage before a cop gets there.

Sent from my DROID RAZR using Forum Runner I advocate it because its a constitutional right! You can't punish the masses for the acts a few! There is close to 300 million people in this country, it is impossible to screen everyone. And even if you did screen them all, there are sociopaths who can trick a polygraph for crying out loud. If someone has evil plans, do you think they will admit this to a mental health professional? There are rules in place as far as felons owning guns, mentally ill, etc. There is no perfect solution. Regurgitating what the liberal media says is not thinking for yourself. Do some research on who is already prohibited from owning firearms. The libs are playing on emotions right now to take guns away from ordinary citizens. I'd be one of the few allowed to still have guns if the liberals get their way and I'm against citizens being prohibited from owning guns, so what does that tell you? It's bad mojo to start violating the constitution our great country was founded on. Constitution is in place to protect citizens from the government. Not the other way around...
