January 25, 201313 yr Author Since Kentucky has been an open carry state, have you ever been or felt threatened by the fact someone was open carrying that you saw? Well, I've (up to now), been able to go to the library, park and zoo without seeing any. The one time I encounterd a person carrying in the open, he started to pull the gun on me when I bumped into him as I got off the bus at my stop. THAT didn't make me feel too comfortable! I hot-hoofed it all the way home!

You may not like the responsibility that comes a gun or a boat. But its good to know who has them... Lots of gun owners have stockpiles. Do not measure someone by their cache.
January 25, 201313 yr Not much has changed, the old prohibited list for any gun: KRS § 237.110, which governs the issue of permits, also lists places where concealed carry is prohibited. Per § 237.110 (16), concealed carry is prohibited in: (a) Any police station or sheriff's office; (b) Any detention facility, prison, or jail; © Any courthouse, solely occupied by the Court of Justice courtroom, or court proceeding; (d) Any meeting of the governing body of a county, municipality, or special district (If passed by local ordinance); or any meeting of the General Assembly or a committee of the General Assembly, except that nothing in this section shall preclude a member of the body, holding a concealed deadly weapon license, from carrying a concealed deadly weapon at a meeting of the body of which he or she is a member; (e) Any portion of an establishment licensed to dispense beer or alcoholic beverages for consumption on the premises, which portion of the establishment is primarily devoted to that purpose; (f) Any elementary or secondary school facility without the consent of school authorities as provided in KRS 527.070, any child-caring facility as defined in KRS 199.011, any day-care center as defined in KRS 199.894, or any certified family child-care home as defined in KRS 199.8982, except however, any owner of a certified child-care home may carry a concealed firearm into the owner's residence used as a certified child-care home; (g) An area of an airport to which access is controlled by the inspection of persons and property; or (h) Any place where the carrying of firearms is prohibited by federal law. Unless I am missing something, parks and zoos were not on this list to begin with?

But I would rather be in room with half the people carrying with CCL permits than in a known gun free zone. The former would feel a lot safer. CCL carriers typically are former military, former law enforcement, etc. They are good to have around and should not be feared. Packing is not for everyone. But those that do are 99.999% good people.

Can't swim....therefore NOT getting into a vessel of any size that is on the water. :lol: Don't need no friends with boats either. Look, I really don't have a problem with anyone owning a gun. But I do have a real problem with the fact that there is pretty much no restriction on who owns a gun, whether they know how to safely use it, whether they're mentally stable....I do have friends AND family who own guns. I am NOT AGAINST gun ownership. It doesn't matter what any one has to say...if I don't know you and you're totin' a gun...I don't trust you and I will avoid you like you're plague carrying rat.

That's the change.

You could be correct. BUT, CCL carriers are not limited to former military or law enforcement. Sorry...I don't feel more comfortable with CCL's or Open Carry people in my parks and libraries or zoo. I don't. What happens when events are held in a city owned park? Forecastle Festival will be at Waterfront Park again this year. What about the a concert at the YUM! Center? Or a Broadway show at KY Center for the arts?
January 25, 201313 yr The people that are going to cause harm or havoc with a gun will have them regardless of what laws are in place restricting them. As a non-gun owner, I feel a whole heck of a lot safer knowing responsible individuals are allowed to carry and potentially discourage or put a quick stop to someone with ill-intentions.

And I feel less safer knowing that now a person who is potentially looking to cause harm or havoc will be no less out of place than the people they're around.
