January 24, 201313 yr No but I don't believe it has or will illicit the same reaction that women being raped will cause. Again I don't disagree with the change in policy I just wonder about the reaction when something like this happens. The reaction will be knee jerk and all women will be removed from combat. We all know that answer.
January 24, 201313 yr If a women is willing to take the risks, there should be nothing to prevent her, other than any established criteria that her own abilities may not meet. Sent from my DROID RAZR using Forum Runner So long as standards aren't lowered, I agree.
January 24, 201313 yr As long as the physical standards are not lowered to allow women to get there, I'm ok with it. I don't like it, but I'm ok with it.
January 24, 201313 yr I'm sure there are women who can more than handle themselves on the battle field (even better than a lot of their male counterparts). It sounds like leadership is only doing this because of good test results from women in their ability to handle difficult physical, mental, and emotional situations.
January 24, 201313 yr Not being a person who seeks out combat, how much of one's success in combat is physical vs. mental? Sent from my DROID RAZR using Forum Runner
January 24, 201313 yr Not being a person who seeks out combat, how much of one's success in combat is physical vs. mental? Sent from my DROID RAZR using Forum Runner One goes hand in hand with the other. One is as important as the other. High standards in one leads to high standards in the other.
January 24, 201313 yr I am not a fan of women in combat either. Too many distractions for both sexes. If women can't meet the same physical requirements as men, they shouldn't be there. War is hell, ladies. Who cares about equal rights when it's life or death on the front lines. You need to know the person next to you is fully capable physically as well as mentally to have your back. Women are just too emotional! Just my 2 cents.
January 24, 201313 yr One goes hand in hand with the other. One is as important as the other. High standards in one leads to high standards in the other. Disagree. I am very strong mentally. Physically, I am Randy Parker. I am definitely one you want in your corner when you need someone who keeps their wits about them. But I can't lift a Humvee off you. So, my question remains.... I think if you are talking about an enlisted soldier, the military considers the physical more important in combat, since their physical standards could be considered much higher than their intellectual standards that they require for enlistment.

I think if you are talking about an enlisted soldier, the military considers the physical more important in combat, since their physical standards could be considered much higher than their intellectual standards that they require for enlistment. You don't have to be an intellectual to be mentally strong. I don't want a "big strong manly man" next to me in combat if he can't handle the mental pressures associated with combat. He'll not be having my back. And, frankly, I don't want a macho man next to me who is doubting me because of my gender. Sent from my DROID RAZR using Forum Runner

January 24, 201313 yr So are you saying you think they should have different standards to determine if someone is fit for combat based on gender? No. I am asking which is the most important. Not all men are physically able either. Not all men are mentally able. I don't know what the physical requirements are for men. Let's say dude #1 is 5-6 and 155. Is he less able than Dude #2 at 6-3, 280 simply because of his size? Sent from my DROID RAZR using Forum Runner

Sent from my DROID RAZR using Forum Runner I'm pretty certain it's more about %'s than straight numbers, but I could be wrong about that. And just from knowing quite a few guys that are currently or have recently served, I'm 100% certain the military values physical over mental. I'll trust their judgement over ours.
