Birds hit their Free Throws late in the 2nd half to maintain the lead.

Down 21-20 at the half Highlands outscored the Camels 14-10 in the 3rd qtr to take a 34-31 lead.

 

Birds did a nice job scoring against the press late in the game.

 

Excellent defense by Witte and Turner on Holbrook and McGovney holding them way below their scoring avgs. Moving Witte to PG gives the Birds strength out front and a better chance to see down the floor against the press.

 

Best offensive rebounding performance by far for the Birds.

 

Camels didnt have Anyone else step up When their best scoring options werent able to score.

Birds swept the Camels winning the frosh and jv also..

Birds roster was minus two as well tonight with Sr role players Jake Gronotte and Karl Hinkel out with injuries.

 

Jensen Feggins, sophomore, stepped Into the lineup and battled. He also hit two big FT's late in the 4th to extend the lead to 54-47 with 50 seconds left. Several Bird underclassmen gave good minutes off the bench tonight.

 

Final score closer than it was as a Camel player tossed in an uncontested 3 pter as the buzzer sounded.

 

Turner was nails going perfect from the line and both True and Houliston hit big FT's in the end.

That is what I expected to see from this team all year. The defensive effort was excellent which allowed the Birds to get some easy looks in transition and the offense was much different as they were attacking the lane and kicking out to the line for a wide open 3 or getting a basket with out so much pressure on the shot. This now breaks the streak of "A" victories and hopefully there is a carry over effect to Saturday when the Birds play the Rebels.

Great win for the 'Birds--Congrats Q, I know your guys needed one like this. Hopefully HHS builds on this and moves forward the remainder of the season. Tough loss for CC--Guessing they figured this one was a win coming in, especially with McGovney back for a few games now?

Holbrook is a tough player, I was amazed at a couple of takes he had where he had Witte hounding him, helpside was there also, True over top and he still got em to fall. The kid earned every point he made tonight.

Can someone from Campbell Co. tell me....who in the hell was the new kid on the JV team? HOLY COW, maybe 6'7" and a good 325 lbs. Heard something about he transferred in from Cincinnati and just be came eligible? Does this kid play football, he was a load.

Luke had a huge night hitting some 3''s and knocking down all of his FT's. Plus he locked horns with McGovney most of the Night.

 

It didnt seem like Holbrook had 21 which is very scary because he had a lot of misses tonight.

1st time I've seen of the Birds this season, and I agree, they gave a great effort on defense and that effort paid off tonight. :thumb:
