Are they "Emotionally and Financially Invested" (with regards to the administration) ? If not, Holmes and others are going to have a constant, rotating door.

 

Matter of fact, that's a question that should be posed to all schools. If not, it causes for a lot of head banging against the walls, which eventually becomes tiresome.

Talked to a couple people last night and this is a program that is very unstable right now and out of control.

 

There are some right people for the job, but the question is who will get it. I know Dearborn isn't a candidate. Don't see him coaching much longer.

If 6-4 in the regular season with the only losses to teams who won 10 plus games this season is out of control, then we all need a new dictionary! Coach Liggin walked into a mess at Holmes with major discipline issues that he utlimately resolved by setting strict standards for everyone, including the coaches on his staff. Coach Liggin set up a more reasonably matched schedule in terms of Holmes' talent and the surrounding competition. The team should have good success next year, but talent drops off after Scruggs is gone

Rumor and just a rumor, was the handling of the Peterson kid. Several times he "babied this kid and his grades so he could play. Now the kid is not even in school. Also, over heard a very, very respected official said that his team was very dirty and disrespectful. Once again, rumors that I over-heard. I have no dog in this fight and wish Holmes the best of luck in finding a coach.

One name that would be interesting is Dave Simpson. Phenomenal coach and relates well with kids. His effect at Scott has led to kids leaving Covington and playing in Taylor Mill.

Is David Simpson currently a certified teacher? If so, that would be an interesting hire. The kids at Holmes deserve to have a committed long term solution that they can build success with. Clack Lickert showed that you can build something but did not stay long enough for the program to sustain that success. Hope they find that solution.

Steve Lickert took Holmes to success levels they had not had in a years. He also had a strong middle school/feeder program filled with kids that were disciplined. You rarely if ever saw discipline problems with that bunch.

 

So I have to question the "mess" comment made above. Holmes lost a strong leader, coach, and mentor when Steve Lickert left.

On the discipline comments, I can't speak to that within in the program. But I can tell you Holmes was one of the most undisciplined teams in play execution I have seen on the football field. What you see on the field is usually a reflection of what is going on in the program.

Peterson sat 2 games Simon Kenton and 1st quarter of play offs for absenteeism. Matter of fact, he made the honor before disenrolling from school. Rumor is wrong. Never babied, only held accountable.
