Wow, that is much bigger than I expected. I do believe the 'breds are for real. I always thought so, though.

NCC really making a statement right now. They have been destroying 9th region teams.

In the Battle for Newport this one goes to the Breds. Both teams open the 1st quarter of action with some really "dumb" passing, Newport scores the 1st 4 points in the game, however the Breds are able to maintain a led after one at 17-14. Bueter 8, McDonald 4, Pangallo 3, Seibert 2.

The 2nd stanza was much the same in the turnover department for both, as the Breds were trying to forcing passes that shouldn't have been made and the Wildcats looked more like a "school yard" team. However the Breds did a great job of contesting shoots down low with their size advantage. Offensivly NewCath out hustled the Wildcats at both ends of the floor and built a 32-23 halftime led. Size was starting to take over as Schulte and McDonald were starting to get into the flow. I wish I had video of it, but Zac Pangallo had one of the BEST "no-look" passes you'll ever see. :notworthy: Bueter 8, McDonald 6, Pangallo 6, Seibert 4, Schulte 4, Dupont 2, Devoto 2.

The 3rd Quarter was nothing short of a "clinic", as Bueter, McDonald, Seibert & Schulte put on a show and the Wildcats had zero answer. Bueter got his on drives to the hoop, Seibert from inside and outside the arc, & Schulte & McDonald were just killin' it inside. The Wildcats put up only 7 points in the quarter and find themselves down 25, at 55-30. Bueter 12, McDonald 12, Seibert 11, Schulte 10, Pangallo 6, Dupont 2, Devoto 2.

In the 4th quarter the Breds were on the verge of the "running clock" up 66-32 with 4:51 remaining and from this point on it was "sub-city". I will say, the Wildcats DO have some very talented players, but they need to run something that resembles an offense and take better shots. Maybe this was an off night for the Wildcats?? Could it have something to do with not playing since 12-22?? :idunno:

The Breds end up with 5 in double figures: Bueter 20, McDonald 12, Schulte 11, Seibert 11, Pangallo 10, Verkamp 4, Haas 4, Covington 2, Devoto 2, Dupont 2, Weyer 2

Need to give kudos to the NewCath bench Weyer, Dupont & Devoto in particular, these guys might not score many points, but they give the starts a nice little breather and can hold their own. :thumb:

NewCath (12-0) 17-15-23-25 80

Newport (9-4) 14-09-07-21 51

Next up for the Breds, this Friday up on the "hill" against the defending state champs Lou. Trinity.

No.

They do not run an offense. I said after watching the Brossart game that you can't scout them because there is no offense to scout. You just say "guard."

Zac Pangallo's "no-look" pass to Drew McDonald. When he made the pass he is looking at Bueter in the corner. Go to :30 mark for the play. Thanks for the video, but in person it was a thing of beauty.

Excellent recap LB. Thanks

Beuter is having a great year, kid is clutch.

The Friday game with Trinity may set the tone for the remainder of the season at NCC. Win this one and their can be no doubters as they head for the Sweet 16.

I will be more interested to see how NCC handles Holmes and CovCath but yes this will be a great test for them.

Great pass by the young Pangallo but I couldnt help but notice the lackadaisical man-man defense by Newport as well as the awful shot selection to start the video.

If you have athletes like they do I would demand they get in your face, overplay, trap put pressure on the point guard especially. Completely lazy defense, I saw better pressure defense from Harlan Co last week down in Pikeville.

I can only hope they take shots like that against the Birds.

NewCath has been killing teams coming out of half time. I would be interested in seeing the 3rd quarter scores of their past 6 games. Grant and crew are making some great adjustments.

I know I'm clearly biased, but Grant has to be top 1 or 2 coaches in NKY.
