For those who wonder why people don't like Notre Dame.

Why I won’t be cheering for old Notre Dame

Here is a good write up of why.

Coach Kelly should be ashamed ignoring stuff like this and this alone should be enough to lose his job, I never liked Notre Dame, but after reading this they just jumped to worst team in college sports to me.

This happens at many schools I would guess, it how it is handled that determines the character of the school, coach and administration.

This seems to reflect poorly on all involved at ND...

You'd think with all the scandals involving Priests the Church would step in and do something about this.

It's disappointing that there's a culture in college athletics that this type of thing is commonplace, with a blanketing statement of "everyone deserves a second chance." Where's this girl's second chance? We need to have some freaking perspective.

I don't know how as a teammate or coach I could ever look towards this person as someone I would want to accomplish anything with.

All the Notre Dame fans that have went off on me all year are remarkably silent now.

That is very disturbing. I cannot imagine the restraint her father shows. I would be in jail.

Wow man are you serious? You want to use something as sick and wrong as this to call Notre Dame fans out? Your using something terrible that happened to someone to call people out. Even though all Notre Dame fans have said was your wrong to call them average which is true. Its ok to say this is why you don't like Notre Dame, but very poor choice to try to use it to call fans out. Thats not right.

Now to get back to what is really important here which is what happened. That is very sad and very disturbing. Stuff like that should not happen no matter what University it is! There is no defending that for me, and I will pray for those families.

You do realize that the "sexual assault" was the touching of the accusers breast during a make out session don't you? I have never heard of anyone being suicidal after having their breast touched. Also, the picture in the story you posted has the young lady at a tailgate party several days after she accuses the football player of the sexual assault. Would you be tailgating in support of a team that has a member on their roster that sexually violated you?

This was a situation where this young lady had a mental illness that unfortunately had a tragic ending leaving the family with searching for answers as to why their little girl would do such a thing.

First I've heard of this but what about innocent until proven guilty?

What about the second one who was actually raped, and then other football players messaged her trying to silence her and were successful.

It was much more than that and it's responses like yours that help to keep other victims from reporting these assaults.

The girl did have a therapist but holding her down, trying to strip her and grope her and then threatening her while the university does nothing to investigate sure would increase her anxiety, don't you think?

Here's a little more detail:

Reported sexual assault at Notre Dame campus leaves more questions than answers | National Catholic Reporter

I used to be as big of a ND football fan as I am a UK basketball fan. But I cannot root for them now, haven't since a little after Lou left, and as soon as they hired Kelly in continued. These events don't help the matter either.

I still like ND but as I said, this is disturbing and it does mute my appreciation for them. I know they are big time football but I always held them in higher regard than other top programs and felt they were more likely to do the right thing. Naive I guess.
