I think you missed the point, my point, HHS has kids transfer there just to play football. Not saying it's a crime. It shows how successful the program is and parent support. Didn't Collinsworth buy a bus or something to travel a few years ago? It should be a something that HHS is proud of instead of playing it down like it doesn't happen.

They both have football. Why NCC? If this score means anything, your child would get a better education at Brossart.

Right now FT Thomas is not accepting tuition students in grades 6-11 due to capacity being reached. Not sure if they've projected out for future years after this one.

 

Not disagreeing with you but there are loopholes to get a kid into the Ft Thomas School district. I won't go into details because of the people that are turned away but it is possible. And no, it's not just because they play football either. I will save the haters response before it even gets out of their mouths.:lol:

Really? That is one heck of a bus for a rental.. Wow!!

That means if I have girls that play soccer, I would think about sending them to ND or St. Henry.

 

If I have a boy that plays bball, I might look at NCC, Brossart, Cov Cath.

 

If I have a football player, I'm looking at HHS, NCC, Cov Cath, Beechwood.

 

At the root of all those decsions is what??? EDUCATION!

 

Based on your examples, the root or reason for sending your kids to those schools would be athletics. You basically just said you would find the best athletics programs in those sports and if the education is strong enough, that is where you would send your child.

 

They can play athletics anywhere. If it is about education, Highlands offers all of the sports you mentioned.

My wife is a Brossart alum, so I would say there or NCC (which would kill me! Sorry Lawnboy!) Now, if he develops a love for football in these next couple years and he can't get into HHS and we already have determined he isn't going to CC, then NCC would probably be our choice. But it would be based education first, not football. If it wasn't based on education, I'd let him go to CC because I think they are an up and coming program and he could go for free! Trust me, it shouldn't be a problem. There are exceptions! I was briefly educated on this situation this past fall when I asked a parent of a child that will be a Senior next year at HHS and they also have a child that will be enrolling as a Freshman next year as well. They told me it was worked out! :idunno:

Our opinion...CC's education isn't where we'd like it to be and it's too big. You definitely have good examples at every school, but you also have bad examples at a school that size. And we feel there are more chances for a kid to be led a stray at a big school. Yes, it starts at home, but there are hundreds of examples where kids from great families and support systems went down the wrong path. When we plan our kids future, we are going to split every hair to make sure we set them up for what we feel gives them the the best chance to succeed in life. We feel the smaller school that places the emphasis on eduaction is the best...again, sports is icing on the cake.

 

As far as the NCC comparison with Brossart...I would do a lot more research than just look at a one year ACT average. But if the schools came out similar at the end of that research and my son had an interest in football, I don't think there is a parent in the country that wouldn't send them to NCC in that circumstance. Unless they were bias to Brossart in some way. If you want to look at it hypothecally and say that Brossart is WAY better educator than NCC, then we would have to weigh all the factors and that would be a very hard argument to overcome. But the difference in the facts you put up there are not that big and are only 1 year numbers. With a quick search, HHS' scores in 2010 were a 23.3 and a half point lower the year before that. HHS is one of the top 3 schools in the state. So NCC's one-year number isn't very far off. If they are that close to HHS in that and other categories of education and football was a priotiry for my kid, NCC would be attractive. It's still a great education and the root of my decsion not to go to CC was because of education!

I didn't necessarily mean me!!! I meant anyone. I would send my kids to HHS, no questions asked. I have two very good girl athletes right now...freshman and 6th grader. I don't live in Ft Thomas. Where do you think they go to school. HIGHLANDS! Both are good athletes. You're discussing with the wrong guy on that example.

 

And...the example takes into consideration that the education you'd get at those schools are all equal/very similar. So again, education would be the root of the decision. Where they ultimately end up may be because of logistics, cost, etc. But I would identify where my kids would get a great education first and then determine what the best fit is for other reasons. And if you kids played sports, it and many other factors would be on the list that helped us determine the right school for us.

It is not bad or wrong, but it is not because of academics. A kid can play football at both places. You choose NCC because of the chance to win a championship.

My question is if a student and his/her family choose to go to a school for athletics that is a bad thing but if a student and his/her family opt to go to a school because of a great drama department or a great marching bad no one bats and eye?

Agreed, but what we are talking about...all things are not equal. There aren't kids transferring to HHS from Beechwood, NCC, Cov Cath. Wonder why? They don't need to. They are getting a great education! And what a coinicidence, those schools are some of the others that get slack about getting kids from other programs. I wonder why???? Education!!! HHS gets kids that want to be in the enviroment that the school and community provide. There is no guarantee when a kid comes that he will play football or even make it to the state game. I can tell you in the mid to late 80's, HHS has a little drought in championships. There were plenty of transfers/tution students that filled the halls and played football and other sports. They didn't leave because we didn't win state. Why, because first and foremost, they were there for education!
