Fair enough, but you do realize that the success of Ft. Thomas Independent schools has WAY more to do with parental support and community expectations than anything else. If you switched the teaching staffs at Covington Holmes and Highlands, the results would not change. Covington Holmes would still be low achieving and Highlands would still be elite.

HHS allots a ton of money to education. They hire the best teachers and pay them more because it's important to them. This may be a complete rumor, but in a recent conversation with a lady trying to get into Ft Thomas schools, she was not chosen because she did not have her masters degree. She was told that all their teachers have masters or are very close to getting it. I have no idea if that is the norm or not at other schools, but I thought that was pretty impressive (if it's completely true). That also means that teachers with that level of education are going to demand more money. So the school has to place emphasis on funding that and making education a top priority. That's why in another post I mention that HHS can not afford to "look the other way" on tuition students. They can't afford to have kids come into the school system through improper channels. Now I completely understand that all other districts do not have the access to the same financial resources as Ft. Thomas and I know it's not a place us sports people want to go. I get that.

Right now FT Thomas is not accepting tuition students in grades 6-11 due to capacity being reached. Not sure if they've projected out for future years after this one.

 

I know, that's just our long term plan and we are hopeful that changes. I do have two kids already at HHS, so maybe that helps! I have no idea.

And why limit it to football. I know kids have chosen schools for terrible things like Performing Arts or Advanced Program or "GASP" basketball.

You missed his point...all schools get transfers on a regular basis. But you and others only want to talk about transfers when it's convenient to beat down a successful program. Heck, I know two kids that transferred to Brossart. Why aren't you talking about them??

Didn't Collinsworth buy a bus or something to travel a few years ago? It should be a something that HHS is proud of instead of playing it down like it doesn't happen.

All teachers MUST by state law get a masters degree within 5 years of teaching. Also all teachers work and get paid on a rank system. Rank 1 is 2 masters degrees, Rank 2 is 1 masters degree, and Rank 3 is just a bachelors degree. It is based on a salary schedule.

You would also be surprised at the amount of money spent at schools in low income areas. They can spend away, but it does not matter. Without support from home, the schools will fail.

My point is that from an educational standpoint, your child would be just as successful at Campbell County as he would at Highlands, because education is obviously important to you.

I thought that Highlands has sltopped taking tuition paying students .Will this affect your 2nd grader when it is his time to leave the CC school system ? If he can't attend Highlands where will you send him then?

Now, if he develops a love for football in these next couple years and he can't get into HHS and we already have determined he isn't going to CC, then NCC would probably be our choice. But it would be based education first, not football. If it wasn't based on education, I'd let him go to CC because I think they are an up and coming program and he could go for free! But I'm not sold on the education.

Okay, I admit i'm not that imfromed on the process. I agree it's the parent support. No arguments there. But families do flock to the communities that are already established and set up to succeed for education! It's much easier to keep your kid focused in a place that encourages and rewards education rather than it just being a mandate. That's what our points are. Yes kids come here and play football, but it's icing on the cake for the parents. If a kid says, I want to go to HHS to play football, if the parents can pull it off, it's a no brainer becaue of education! Just like T, X NCC, Cov Cath, Beechwood, Holy Cross, Notre Dame, St Henry, Brossart...and it's not just for football. Heck, kids go to Cov Latin and play sports.

 

We are talking about natural selection. If I'm a parent and I have the resources to do what I think is best for my kid, I will do it. That means if I have girls that play soccer, I would think about sending them to ND or St. Henry. If I have a boy that plays bball, I might look at NCC, Brossart, Cov Cath. If I have a football player, I'm looking at HHS, NCC, Cov Cath, Beechwood. At the root of all those decsions is what??? EDUCATION! But at the end of the day, HHS does not get any more kids from transfers or move ins than any other school that places emphasis on education. It's what HHS does with those kids when they get them and the dedication and sacrifices those kids are willing to make to be successful. Again, I can show you way more average level transfers than you can show me stars.

Not sure where the bus rumor came from. If he did, i'm not sure where they hide it. They rent buses for travel. let's not go there again! (another post awhile back was all about that!)
