From what I've been told I'm almost certain that BOTH Neil Brown and James Coley will be on Kentucky's staff. Not sure what roles they are gonna be playing just yet. I think Brown is gonna be WR, TE and either be OC or share the OC with Coley. Maybe Coley assistant coach and Recruiting Coordinator.

 

It isn't confirmed just yet but it's close that DJ Eliot will be on board as DC and also rumored is Greg Hudson.

 

Guy, not to discredit you r anything but I have a hard time believing you've been "told" anything from within the coaching search process. I don't know if you're trying to make it seem like you've got "sources" but definitely not a good look if you're just doing it to be doing it. Hope I'm wrong.

Who's responsibility is it? Shouldn't Joker have been going after assistants, with the AD only determining the budget?

I agree. I'm just saying that we never heard, while Joker was there, that they had a open checkbook to hire assistants that would help win. I doubt it was the case since the best DC we could get was Minter.

I highly doubt Mitch was holding out on Joker, but throwing money at Stoops. Mitch got all kinds of crap for the Joker hire. Giving Joker enough resources to succeed would have put Mitch in a better light too.

Maybe Mitch did and Joker responded by bringing in Mike Summers and Rick Minter.

Pretty sure Joker brought in who he wanted, and in my opinion. Chased out better coaches for who he thought were better recruiters.

In his defense he hasn't spewed any bull crap and he is also not saying he is 100% correct on anything either. Just saying what he was told. Whether his sources are right, wrong or imaginary he's providing talking points and that is what we like here at BGP.

Regardless, Mitch was getting the heat for it. I have no reason to think Mitch was holding out on Joker. If anything, they seemed to have an extremely good relationship.

Something to keep in mind. Nick Saban is a control freak. He controls all aspects of the Alabama game planning and calling the game. It's one of the reasons why I don't think Kirby Smart is as attractive big-time coaching prospect as some think. Very few of his OC and DC coordiantors have went on to successful coaching careers at major colleges. Jimbo Fisher and Will Muschamp are the exceptions. And I'm sure Jimbo learned from Saban in the same way Saban learned from his mentor, Bill Bellichek. And it's one of the reasons why coordinators are quick to jump from programs headed by the Nick Saban coaching tree.
