I just think it would be an upset but not a huge upset. Maybe not even an upset. Anyone who has followed high school football in 5A shouldn't be surprised by the two teams representing the 5A state final game.

Like I said earlier, I'm just happy for the kids to even have the chance to play in this game.

 

This team has made school history over the past 2 years and everything else is just icing on the cake.

 

Going into last season the team had never won a district game, had never beaten any of the other 3 county schools and had never even sniffed a playoff game with only 6 wins over that 3 year span. Then in the last 2 seasons they turn it around, going undefeated in district last year and winning all but 1 game this year.

Now this year after never winning a single playoff game are about to play for the state championship. It's pretty amazing if you ask me.

 

The Juniors and Seniors on this team have made this one of the most memorable seasons that will be remembered for a long long time.

 

Whatever the outcome next week, this team is special and will be the team al others are measured by at Cooper.

 

Its been a fun year and no matter what happens 7 days from now, they will always be remembered for this year.

How many kids go both ways for BG?

 

None. That's what did John Hardin in last night...they were gassed.

I will be the first to admit that BGHS was outplayed by JH last night, but the frightening thing about the Purples was that they graduated 31 seniors last year, have only ten this year, and returned only four starters from last year (only one on that defense). JH pounded the ball on the ground with great success, but those players went both ways, and BGHS found a way to win at the end. There wasn't a Bulldog on that field who could catch Blake Pillow when he got the ball for the winning score. In short, the Purples were inexperienced when the season started, but got much better fast. This team arrived one year early, and even if Cooper wins the game, I am so proud of the guys in what has been a stellar year of hs football in Warren County. :clap::clap:

 

Best of luck to the Jags next week...what an accomplishment to be in the 5A title game for such a young program! If any of the guys on the page are here next week, be sure to look for Mrs PH and me where the wheelchairs will be, especially you, Pride!!

Well I'll add my two cents. Everyone can please stop talking about how Cooper has too many that go both ways. They've done it ALL year against top notch competition. Boone Co., Ryle, S. Oldham, Anderson, Franklin Co., and Harlan Co. All either fully platoonef or have far less that play both ways than Cooper not to mention bigger than them.

 

These players are in shape and prepared to play an entire game. Cooper is an underdog and shud be but has been capable to go out n just play Football.

 

The school is only 5 years old, finished 9-1 and for the first time in KHSAA history a team with this reg season record had to go on the road for the playoffs. Was supposed to lose the first playoff game won 48-0. Won the next game and was definitely supposed to lose vs Franklin Co and the Mr. Football candidate in Timmons but held him in check for only 120 yrds of offense with 80 of it coming on 2 plays and won there as well. Travelled 4 hours to Harlan Co. "Where nobody gets out alive" only to allow them 7 points and leave out "alive" and with a W. (btw HC where some of the most nicest people u ever want to meet).

 

Cooper has no secrets. We just do what we do and make adjustments as necessary. We are no Hoosiers nor do we want to be, we are coming to BG to play FOOTBALL no different than any other game in these playoff. BG is a great team with championships and history. We are just trying to make our own.

You were only called the underdog once on BGP and that was against Franklin County. Cooper was the favorite in all of their other games.

It is difficult for a team that plays multiple players both ways to keep up for all 4 quarters against a team that two platoons. We see it happen everytime. I can reluctantly attest to that.

Cooper's quick rise to power in football has been very impressive. I only hope that HHS and Cooper begin playing each other soon. It would be a solid game for both programs.
