November 23, 201213 yr I agree that the shove was not acceptable, but other than that I have no problem if he is an in your face type if coach.
November 23, 201213 yr We live in a world with a 24 hour news cycle and every incident goes viral especially when it occurs against a high profile team like Kentucky. I grew up in an old school world where these types of coaches with the in your face intensity and the shove in the back would have been a lot more commonplace. With that being said I don't know how long of a shelf life coaches can have with that mentality in todays world. From this point forward Woods will be heavily scrutinized and even at Morehead there are cameras and media at every game. As someone mentioned in an earlier post where this will have an effect is in the recruiting of high school athletes where parents are much more involved. Woods has shown the ability to recruit from the JUCO world where you are dealing with a different type of recruit.
November 23, 201213 yr I grew up playing sports in the 70's and 80's and never once did a coach of mine hove me or any of my teammates. I don't care what the player said, Woods is the leader nd his actions showed a complete lack of self control. If I were the AD at MSU I would be very concerned about Sean Woods ability to handle this job. First his comments earlier in the week about UK's current players and then the outburst during the game. In both cases he showed a complete lack of discernment.
November 24, 201213 yr I think if this occurred against Tenn Tech, we'd have heard very little of it.
November 24, 201213 yr I think the one-game suspension is perfect. If there is another incident, a severe penalty will be issued. I have NO problem whatsoever with Woods' in-your-face coaching style. When a player comes of the court with a lousy attitude and says some regretful comments, he deserves a good ripping. The shove and negative national attention justifed the penalty though.
November 24, 201213 yr IMO - He should have gotten 3 games. He is supposed to be the Public Relations/Recruiting/Developer of that program. For me, there is a distinct difference between intense and in-your-face coaching. Go back and look at the end-result of the majority of people with the latter coaching style - almost all have less than stellar exits. I hope Sean Woods can keep his intensity and keep things on track. I can tell you because of his actions, he has lost a fan.
November 24, 201213 yr Laid on the floor......[/quote That's funny, I was thinking the same thing. I always enjoyed watching Coach Fick.
November 24, 201213 yr He needed to be reeled in... Kudos to MSU for sending a message before something goes too far. Personally, I can't understand how some people think the way to handle immature behavior is with immature behavior. Sean had every right to confront the player and call him out, but not in the heat of the moment and not by putting his hands on him. If the player was immature enough to curse his coach, then he's in mature enough to overreact to his coach putting his hands on him. Coach Woods took a teaching moment and turned into a lesson learned for himself, he'll get to sit the next game and the player that cursed his coach will be playing.
