It obviously hurt and it's a bad comparison anyway because it was before there was a record to see for President Obama. It doesn't change the fact that McCain made it worse by a)going far right and b)bringing on Mrs Palin. Those two simply made the outcome even uglier.

 

Had Sen McCain been THIS year's candidate AND had he stayed moderate he COULD have been successful.

I am baffled by this continued refrain from the conservative demographic. I've had WAY too much time to listen to talk radio this week and read crap on the internet. And most are echoing your sentiments. The majority of the country is NOT voting because they want stuff. And frankly, when the conservative party(ies) realize that, they'll figure out a big part of what they need to do to relate to more than the hard right.

Agreed, but McCain is a true moderate IMO.

Can you give me a number of black voters in past elections? I would be curious what the increase has been in the past two elections. If there was a huge increase in turnout then he absolutely did change their voting patterns.

There was about a 1.5% gain of black electorates from 2008.

Also, in 2008 young blacks had the highest demographic voter turnout. This week it was black females who had the highest rate than any other group.

I did not list those as reasons for voting for Obama. I listed them as examples of people receiving aid who are not looking for a handout, but circumstances deem it necessary.
