Ray Kasongo Ruled Ineligible

Featured Replies

If he hasn't improved over last year, he's a non-factor. Lazy. Doesn't rebound. Looks to dunk every time down the floor. Shane Hall made him look like a little leaguer in the regional final last year. Hope only the best for the kid but he needs a coach who can make him play to his potential.

He will be a factor for Pikeville that is for sure.

No friendly judges in Pikeville???

Saw on Twitter he has been ruled eligible. I don't know the circumstances, but it seems like it's time to just rule everyody eligible and remove any transfer rules.

Blame the KHSAA. It is their rule that every transfer is ineligible and must appeal. Therefore many kids appeal and are ultimately granted eligibility. People move. They move more often in lower income situations, and those kids are the most likely to victimized by this horrible rule.

If you are aware of the people behind this kid, you would be asking how did they make this ruling.

The KHSAA continues to baffle. The transfer thing has really gotten out of hand. I am beginning work on a major piece that is going to dig very deep into this new issue.

Don't know this case at all. I do know the KHSAA, and that rule is the beginning of the problem. Historically the Association has done a poor job managing the rule and clearly made decision arbitrarily. It was my hope that this would be fixed w/ direction from a new commissioner, along with some changes imposed by the legislature to address this very issue.

My concern is, and always has been, that there is a huge disparity in the likelihood of a move for a child from lower a socioeconomic background. This is even more pronounced in an urban setting. Therefore the kids most likely to be affected have the least resources available to them to carry out those appeals that are "necessary" to complete a transfer. Those same kids are also more likely to be 'handled' by someone other than a parent, placing their eligibility at further risk.

As an example, Holmes once argued successfully that they had roughly 425 male students at the beginning of each school year and 415 at the end, but that over 100 of those enrolled at the end were not the same as those enrolled at the beginning. More than 100 transfers in in nine months. Every one of them ineligible until appeal. How many slipped through the cracks and missed opportunity? How many lacked the proper guidance as they processed through this system?

I hope your going to talk to all involved at ER.

I also don't think you really are going to get very deep. I don't know if you understand how political it all is.

I understand a whole lot. Im' not only looking into Kasongo and Wolter. I'm also looking at every Canadian that has ended up in Kentucky.

Good, I wasn't meaning it in a way to put you down at all, just saying you will be stepping on A LOT of toes.

Wireman, I REALLY wish the HKSAA wouyld just say "OK, anyone and everyone can have one free transfer, no questions asked. Out of state or out of country students have to stay at the school they orginally enrolled in most cases but would not be denied, unless their "family" moves as well". I think Cali still allows one free transfer with no questions.

Nothing surprises me about transfers. Watching the 10th region over the years Ive seen a whole bunch of them. Wireman I wish you luck!

I agree. It would take khsaa out of some of these decisions.

Who sits in Toronto or wherever Canada, and says "Let's move to Pikeville, KY"??

I watched the Kasonga brothers warm up today and the younger bro was throwing some nasty dunks down. Ray also threw down a nasty Tomohawk.
