Why don't we just do away with the electoral process and just appoint a President that certain powers that be (say yourself) deem as trustworthy and reputable.

 

I have always loved how so may people believe in the 'rights of the people' to determine their future but balk when 'their' candidate isn't the winner.

The process is the one left by the US Constitution. If you don't like it, lead a movement to have it changed to plurality of votes rather than Electoral College.

 

What you are saying is have some random impeachment proceedings because a President doesn't keep a campaign promise. Who decides if he kept it or not? By what measure?

Ronald Reagan? No. Even he plainly said: We will never negotiate with Terrorists. Yet we made back-door deals with the Iranians for the hostages in Beirut. He even pulled US troops out of Lebanon when we were attacked. Never tried to punish the ones behind that one but did later go after Libya. (BTW, I wish we had a leader like Reagan now)

As to each state being important, in what way? Currently the campaigns are ramping up in "swing states" that hold numerous electoral votes. The same would happen without the Electoral College. In fact, they would only campaign in the urban/suburban areas because there are 20 times the votes in that one locale than in the rural heartland's vast space.

Truth is that the process has been this way for every year of our Constitutional Government. If you don't like the process - start the campaign to change the Constitution.

What about Nixon who promised "Peace with Honor" in '68 but did not achieve it until after his next election?

 

The list goes on and on. Obama Care was voted on by Congress. It was upheld by the Supreme Court. Why not ask each every one of those to be impeached as well? (BTW I too am disgruntled with the way it passed but your calling for impeachment of anyone of these just because you disagree with the results is illogical. FWIW, Obama Care is the one thing you can say he did NOT lie about. He promised he would do something and he did.)

This is literally THE most ridiculous question I've seen posed on here. To date, there is only one US President who has achieved all of their major campaign promises while in office, and that would be our 11th President, James K. Polk. In fact, he didn't even seek a second term, as he had achieved them all in his first term in office. That, coupled with his health convinced him to quit while he was ahead.

 

That being said, if failed campaign promises are cause for impeachment in a President's second term, then every single president that has had a second term should have been impeached "for being a liar"

Honest people can't be politicians. Everyone says they want honest politicians, but those guys tend not to do very well.

 

We need to change our expectations, not the impeachment process.
