Funny how that works isn't it. Mick Cronin was a horrible coach his first 3 years at UC. Now he's one of the hottest young coaching names in the country after the last two years. Same coach. Better TALENT...

This. I support Dusty, but he makes decisions at times that I criticize. But at the end of the day, the man has done a lot of winning with three different franchises.

Nope, he's still an idiot.

No surprise here and to be honest the Reds had no other choice but to bring him back if he wanted to come back. Not a huge Dusty fan but lets face it he has taken the Reds to 2 playoff appearances in the past 3 years and there aren't too many managers that can also make that claim..If the Reds were to let him go who would they bring in to replace him that would be any better..I see where Pete McKanin was let go by the Phillies so we could have always brought him back..Congrats to Dusty and Go Reds!

You continue to be wrong on Mick, so that's standard. You thought he should be fired during the rebuild as well. Mediocre coach??? :lol:

A manager has 162 opportunities to affect games. Lineups, pitching changes, simple gameplay. Is Dusty the best at it? Not in my opinion. However, it can't be overstated how his presence is a good thing with this core of players. I'm not talking about the short timers like Cairo or Spidermonkey or perhaps a bullpen guy here and there. I'm talking about the relationships he's built with BP, Votto, Bruce and now Frazier and others. Yep, if someone on here thinks the manager makes a difference without talent, well, that's retarded. I could win 85 games with the Yankees. The point is that some of the 162 will hinge on a managers call on a certain aspect of that particular game. And boy, I'm right there to rake him when he whiffs on those decisions, and I suppose I should be equally there to praise him when he pulls the right string, which Dusty did again and again this season.

Congrats to Dusty. I have mixed emotions regarding Dusty Baker but at the end of the day I support the Reds.

Well, personally I think Davey Johnson was the best mgr. the reds have had in my lifetime (1973), but Dusty had enough talent to won 90+ games during the regular season & take a commanding 2-0 lead in the NLDS...so now that they blew it with him in charge there wasn't enough talent? It is the mgr. that lacks talent / decision-making skills. I'll even concede the game that Leake started since Cueto was unavailable, but overall he and his coaching staff did a poor job.

 

When FoxSports puts up a graphic that shows all of the BIG leads that Dusty-led teams have blown throughout the years that is all the proof you need. It happened in SF, Chicago, and now Cincy. The only common denominator is Dusty! There is no subjectivity or bias, just factual quantitative data! Boom!
