I just saw Newport HOFer David Simpson today out mowing his grass. Definitely different times at Newport. Unfortunate.

So is this true....

Why? Grades, injuries, quitters?

For those who went, is this true?

I was told that 6 or 7 players were out because of grades.

 

However it gets better.........was told Coach Rice ask someone to "fudge" some grades to get some of the players eligible, then this was taken to the AD, who in turn informed Coach Rice and his entire staff that they would not be coming back next season.

 

Just what I was told and from a Newport person. :idunno: I really hope this is not the case.

 

By the way, Newport dressed 22 for the game.

Just spoke with another Newport "insider", who also heard the same thing. He said he could niether confirm or deny, but he said he can't imagine the coach doing this (which I have to agree with). But it is the rumor going around, guess we will wait and see.

I hope not but if the grade rumors are true, you have to do it the right way(football program) or what you are trying to teach these young men is a lie.

There is no way Nick would do that. Going to teachers to see if there is any way to get players grades up (I.e. extra credit) and asking for teachers to raise grades is a completely different thing. Additionally, where are Newport parents at? Lots of complaining about the school (rightfully so) and very, very little putting cigarettes and beers down and helping out at the school. They have let their kids down.

I thought Nick was the AD at Newport, is he not any longer?
