sportsmaniac Posted October 11, 2012 Posted October 11, 2012 I hate to bring this up right now, but i have to! It seemed like Dusty made good decisions in game 1 and we stole that victory, but his decisions the last 2 days are killing us. Did anyone think about that if he would have walked Arias in the 10th last night after the passed ball the Giants would have either had to let Romo bat or pinch hit for him. If they would have pinch hit for him Lincecum would have came into the game and we would not have had to see him today. Short term it may not have hurt them last night, but it would have hurt them for today's game. Also, the decision to start Leake has to be questioned now. Everyone said Leake or Latos. Why couldn't we have started Lecure gone 2 or 3 innings (probably 2), followed him with Arrondo for 1, Simon for 2, Hoover for 1 and then finished off with our Big 3? IF it works we still have Cueto for the next series, instead we go with a pitcher that hasn't pitched for over 10 days and his confidence had probably taken a big hit because of being left off the roster. I would argue if he is better than Lecure and Simon then he should have been on the roster and not one of them. If he is not better then why bring him back at the expense of Cueto and the next series?

HammerTime Posted October 11, 2012 Posted October 11, 2012 I don't see what other option he had for a starter today. Save your ace for the must win game. No reason to pitch him on 3 days rest (First time ever) unless you have no other option.
Voice of Reason Posted October 11, 2012 Posted October 11, 2012 Dusty is the worst manager in history. It's just that simple.
LRCW Posted October 11, 2012 Posted October 11, 2012 Dusty is the worst manager in history. It's just that simple. Dusty has been fine this series. Lets hope he can win his first series elimination game tomorrow though.
Voice of Reason Posted October 11, 2012 Posted October 11, 2012 We know one thing for sure. If the Reds lose, it is Dusty's fault. If the Reds win, it is in spite of Dusty. All 99 wins.
OlDog75 Posted October 11, 2012 Posted October 11, 2012 (edited) Hindsight. Still 20/20... GT, I had the same idea as Sportsmaniac. I was talking with my son about this before the game that I thought the Reds should have run out LeCure to start the game, let him go 3-4 innings and then let the rest of the bullpen take over. Most were rested and you add a few more days to evaluate Cueto before making any roster decision. Edited October 11, 2012 by OlDog75 spelling
OlDog75 Posted October 11, 2012 Posted October 11, 2012 ^However, I wonder if this injury to Cueto's back didn't begin a few starts ago? He's wasn't exactly stellar the last few.
CincySportsFan Posted October 11, 2012 Posted October 11, 2012 I don't have a problem with starting Leake today. If you empty your bullpen out today, then what happens tomorrow if Latos hits a jam in the 5th or 6th? Today was not a "must win" situation, so Dusty didn't have to manage the way the Bochy did. On the other hand, I would have liked them to walk the bases loaded after the passed ball last night put runners at 2nd and 3rd. Having a force at any base, especially with 2 outs, to me is worth the chance of Broxton possibly walking a run in. Heck, with Pence cramping up the way he was, Rolen could've booted the ball and still beat him to the bag. But, as has already been said...hindsight.

I understand, but in my opinion you win today using the pen, then everybody gets rested the next few days and the Cueto decision gets delayed.
gametime Posted October 11, 2012 Posted October 11, 2012 When Leake left the game it was 4-2 with 1 out in the 5th. Far from ideal, but it wasn't like he got kicked around for 6 runs in 2 innings. As for not loading the bases last night, they got exactly what they wanted out of the situation in a ground ball to end the inning. Just didn't come to fruition on the field. If they walked him and Sanchez gaps one for 3 runs, Dusty is getting killed for walking them loaded...

Pitching an all-staff game is a recipie for disaster. Eventually the other team is going to run into someone they can hit. Hopefully Latos is on his game tomorrow. He's owned the Giants in his career. I worry about him being to pumped up in the beginning. If he gets through the first two innings I'll feel much better.
