December 4, 201213 yr Why are they better? Fan base that has unrealistic expectations. Jurich will match the money. Auburn has to cheat to win and fires their coach as soon as they lose. UT has fired/forced out Majors(Heisman winner at school), fired Fulmer(Won a ntaional title) and just fired antoher coach. Arkansas has never been on the same level as Bama and never will. Expectations are crazy at those schools and coaches are on a short leash and so will strong.

You don't compete against Bama or LSU on a yearly basis, and have great tradition. Fulmer was coach there forever, it's not like he was fired after one bad season. They're all better because one great season and you can compete for a national title. That can't be said at UofL.

Wow, I guess I was in a coma and dreamt the year Louisville was a national title contender. I suppose if FSU runs the table, they have no shot, either.

Here's the difference....At those schools, you need to run the table and have everything go your way to have a shot. At an SEC school, 1) you go undefeated and you 1000% play for the title, and 2) you can even lose and still play for it.
December 4, 201213 yr My gut says he still stays...and that Mike Gundy will be the Vols' next coach...we'll see. That being said. If he does decide to leave. I am not concerned. Tom Jurich will replace him with an excellent coach and recruiter. This job is more attractive now, than it ever has been. Money is no concern whatsoever. Reports out there that Gundy is about to become the Arkansas head man....And Smart and Auburn are close. That seems to be a clear indication as to who the front-runner for the UT job is...:idunno:

I just checked and Alabama is Tennessee's permanent non-division game. May very well have to, but that's irrelevant to my point. They don't have to compete for a title (i.e. beat them out in the division) on yearly basis. Being in the East you have a much easier road to the SEC title game than you would at a place like Auburn or Arkansas.
