Highlands 55 Campbell County 21 (Frosh)

Featured Replies

Heard Daugherty had a big game on offense and defense. Sounds like Hergott had a couple long runs for touchdowns also..:ylsuper:

Having Nick Kendall back seemed to open up opportunites for the offense. Nick had a bunch of good outside runs with speed HHS has been lacking. Hergott had three great runs - two up the middle for TDs where he simple outran everyone and one for about 25 where he ran players over. Daughtery had fewer touches but had at least one TD. This is now a serious triple threat on the ground. No passes completed but pass plays just seemed to get in the way of the success they had with the run.

Once Campbell had to throw the ball, theHHS linebackers just sat on the slant route and took 2 or 3 to the house. Austin Beal had an int and a 40 yard return for TD with a nice hard run.

At one point it was 28-0 HHS. Campbell fought back with three scores and two punt blocks. After that HHS woke up again and put it away.

Glad to see only one 5 yard penalty for the birds after last week with over 120 yds. in penalties.

Good win for the Birds!

What kind of size does Highlands running backs have?

Good size..5'10-6'0 and 170-185lbs..

I don't know weights but tonight they all ran hard. Hergott is about 6'3" 195ish. Daughtery 5'11" 185ish. Kendall 5"10 170ish. It was nice to see HHS continue to control the O-line and break big runs.

That is decent size for varsity, much less freshman. Sounds like they will have some nice additions to the varsity team next year. I am assuming the offensive line is fairly good. I need to get to a freshman game soon.

I was very impressed with Hergott's speed on his first long TD run. He immediately left eveybody way behind.

HHS isn't going to fool you. They run, run, run.

Here is how things went the best I can remember.

- Dougherty scores on a run of 20 yards or so and converts the extra point to go up 7-0

- Austin Beal intercepts a pass around mid-field and returns it to the house for a touchdown.

- Hergott runs a quarterback trap and takes it to the house from somewhere around mid-field.

- Dougherty scores on run of 50+ yards to make it Birds 28-0.

- Campbell responds with a touchdown and on the ensuing drive the Birds are forced to punt and it is blocked. Highlands holds on 4 plays inside the 20 and takes over on downs to run out the clock up 28-7 at half.

- Highlands kicks off to start the 2nd half and marches right down the field to make the score 28-13 with extra point blocked.

- Highlands goes three and out and has another punt blocked and returned to about the 3 yard line and Dougherty is injured on the play.

- Campbell scores and then converts for 2 to make it 28-21.

- Highlands takes the ensuing kickoff and gets a big return to the 45. A few plays later Hergott goes in from about 35 yards and the Birds are now up 34-21 as the 2 point conversion failed.

- Highlands holds the Camels and on a 4th and 2 around midfield lines up in the power I and Nick Kendall gets outside to take it to the house to make the score 41-21.

- On Campbell's next drive they are called for a penalty, but the players started to run their routes. Campbell comes back out with the same play call and Dougherty steps in front of a Matt Wilson pass and returns it for a touchdown to make it 48-21 after the PAT.

- On the next drive, Wilson looks over the middle and Dougherty again steps in front of a receiver and returns it to the house to make it 55-21 Birds with about 6 to go in the game.

- From that point on both teams were able to get all players in the game which was nice to see for both squads.

Now it is on to the Blue Colonels next week at their place.

Big win for the Birds. As warrior mentioned Kendall coming back after a broken leg helps this team big time! Dougherty is a flat-out stud on both sides of the ball! This is such a good group of kids I think many of them will make a positive impact on the JV & varsity squads for 3 more seasons! The fact that these kids are good athletes is one thing, but they are also good students & a high character group. It makes it easy to root for them!

My compliments to their parents & families!

Nice win in convincing fashion. Hergott, Daugherty and Kendall along with Hebel on the line are all names of kids who will be in the mix at the Varsity level next season.

Is there some kind of underlining message here.

Great game by all. The birds held off an early second half push by CC and forced them to get into the passing game. The birds defense took advantage. Props to the line, they opened some monster holes for hergott and dougherty. Kendall hasn't lost a step. If he can get to the edge, the kid can fly.

Isnt this the same Dougherty kid that starts Varsity for the Birds on Friday nites? Not that I have a problem with him playing down or anything, it really doesnt bother me or anything that he dominates at the Frosh level and is a game changer or anything,

but I am just sayn.........:jump:
