Ryle 54 Simon Kenton 18 (Frosh)

Jared Daugherty for HHS is a frosh. He is the varsity kicker and plays runnung back and linebacker for the freshman team.

Kicker is different. I have seen a number of freshmen kick for the varsity and still play freshman. IMO, if a kid is good enough to play varsity, he should get his major playing time on JV, not on freshman. Play better competition to get better.

Best freshman team in the region, they don't play powerhouses out of Louisville. So how can either one truly be the best.

Would love to see the top 2-3 teams in NKY play some of the Cincinnati teams. Could make for some good games.

Doubtful that they would be good games. Beechwood's undefeated freshman team played Moeller last year and it wasn't even close. Moeller dressed 65 and they looked more like a JV or small school varsity than a freshman team. The Moeller people were disappointed in their freshman numbers at 65. They said they usually have 80+ on their freshman team.

Much bigger talent pool, or more effective youth coaching?

What are Ryle's numbers though? Someone told me they had over 700 in the freshman class. If that is true then they have more boys than Moeller and are very close to St. X. assuming a 50/50 split between boys and girls.

There is no predetermined youth football program, at least at Moe. There is a Catholic league, but they have little to no affiliation nor do they have any expectations of where the kids go. End up at Moe, Bacon, McNick etc.

The same can be said about the Louisville catholic league but they have very good coaching. Ryle has played 8th graders on the garish team at the same time they play 8th grade ball. That garish group is pretty dang good. How they compare to T and the like I have no idea.

About 400 total in each class at Ryle

Yes, they play all three games a week. I do not believe they are the only ones that they have doing this.

New Cath does it,but out of necessity. Ryle clearly cares about freshman wins lol. As does beechwood (we're 2-4 varsity but our freshman are undefeated, yay) LOL

No idea what this post is supposed to mean. For the record, BW has no freshmen playing above the freshman level, and IMO they have 4 or 5 kids that could definitely help the varsity.

BW varsity is 3-3.

Since there is no State Championship for Freshman and this is in a thread about a NKY Freshman game, it's pretty safe to assume he was talking about NKY.

I dont' think anyone on here would dispute that, but you got to put your shot in, so congrats! We bow to your greatness. Beechwood has ~18 Freshman and 3 8th graders on the Freshman team. Do you really find it necessary to point out that they couldn't compete with the 80 kid rosters of Trinity or X.

There are some great players on the team no doubt, but I don't think any of them playing Varsity would have created a different record for the Tigers at this point. So leave them at the Freshman level having success. It's about developing all the kids at that level. If you bring up the 3 or 4 stars then its less success for the other Very Good Freshman players and they don't develop as they should.

As is the tradition, when the freshman season ends, they will all move up and we will likely get to see a few of them contribute in the playoffs. Until then, there's no need to push it.

Seems like you are not knowing what you are talking about. Ryle has had a freshman get in ONE play of varsity football in the last three weeks. There are a few freshmen that dress, but they don't get on the field except for a rare occasion.
