DeSales 72 South Laurel 65 (OT)

Featured Replies

South didn't lose this at home it was in LOUISVILLE.

Even though they sat most of the game last night vs Whitley any chance the main players for South were a little tired and maybe had a small lack of focus after being in part of the blowout game then going to school ( I assume) then having to travel 21/2 or so hours. Hate they lost but a game like this could go a long way in helping the Cards repeat this year.

Nope. I don't think they were tired. I think they might have overlooked'em and got beat by the btter team on Thursday night. I do believe it will make them better. It doesn't get any easier. South has games against Mad. Central and Lafayette next.

When you are number 1 better not overlook a good team bad things may happen.

DeSales came from 10 points down in the final 4 or 5 minutes of regulation. South Laurel seemed to be within one possession of putting the game away a time or two, but it never happened. DeSales tied the game with about :25 left. South then held for one shot but DeSales played good defense and Allen missed from outside.

DeSales went up by five in a hurry at the start of the OT, then it was seven, then it was basically over. DeSales went up by nine I think, South got it down to six in the final minute but that was it. A double-bonus foul and a technical on Hammonds sealed the deal as DeSales hit three of four free throws, but South was really already done by then.

So Henry Clay is the only state team left in the LIT. Wow.

This does go to show you what can happen. I wouldn't have thought my team was going down and I sure didn't think SL was gonna lose.

I realize the game was under difficult cirumstances, having played the previous night, but I saw nothing that would shake my belief that South Laurel isn't the best team in the state.

Frankly, at this level of competition, the Cardinals badly miss Eric Fields, and I suspect Allen misses him, too. I didn't see the entire game, but from what I saw Hammonds tried to do way too much offensively and Proffitt didn't have his best game.

DeSales is a lot like Trinity ... a solid club with some guys that can shoot and a style that presents a tough matchup for anyone, especially a team from out of town that has no familiarity with them.

It was a fun game to watch. DeSales is not as talented as they have been in recent years but still very sound and great passing team.

23-year-old coach Stoubaugh is doing a fine job (he look about 17)

As for South Laurel, I hate to break it to you but they're a long way from being the best team in the state of Kentucky right now! But it's still early.

Way to go Colts! Here comes Prop 20!

Is this the same team that lost to Trigg County and Dixie Heights at 5/3?

Apparently in name only.

They may not be the best team, but they are not "a long way" from it. I would ask you to elaborate by naming all the teams you think are better, since using the phrase "a long way" denotes that you must believe either that there are a whole slew of teams better or that you don't think South should be ranked, or both.

LIT is a difficult place for most teams out of the Louisville area to win. It would appear that the home schools have a slight advantage in several ways. At any rate great win for DeSales. South will be there when the time comes.

Apparently in name only.

Well let's just say I am more than shocked and at this point don't even really know what to say.

That's understandable. It's a huge upset, no doubt. However, if you have seen SL play in recent weeks and watched how they have been sleepwalking through 35-point wins, it's not really all that shocking. Things have been coming too easy for them, and the players have been getting a swelled head over it as a result. This is a good loss for them to get them refocused.

I would say South Laurel and Shelby Co. still have the best chance to win the state tournament. Reason being you ask? Look at their regions. These two are virtual locks to be at Rupp, when others have a war on their hands just to get there. These two would have to be the "safest" picks.
