Bed Bugs

Featured Replies

Anyone ever dealt with these? We suspect we have some but aren't sure. My GF keeps getting bitten but I do not have a bite anywhere on me.

What is the best route to take for getting rid of them?

You can't just get rid of them. It's an awful process. You'll need someone to come in and spray your house and kill what's there. You'll have to pack up all of your clothes and have them dry cleaned. You'll have to take out your box springs and tear the bottom out and get them out and re-staple them back. That's only about 20% of the debugging. My mom came back with some in her luggage from a vacation this summer and it was a nightmare according to her. Take off your sheets and check the mattress on the sides and bottom around the areas where the seams are for black areas. You'll know if you're infested. Bed bugs are everywhere. Doctor's offices, movie theaters...you name it.

Orkin said they will do a free inspection. I find it strange that I have ZERO bites while the GF has probably 20.

They'll inspect for free probably because they know how simple it is to find out. I think that's a little weird also but if the bugs are on one corner of the bed, I could see it being a possibility. Are there any blood spots where she was sleeping?

7 dust will kill them.

She could be getting bit at work.

Wouldn't she bring them home?

I'm already itching just from reading this!

I think it is a good sign that she is getting bitten and you are not. May not be bed bug bites at all.

We recently had a thread on this. Bed bug are far more common than I like to think.

I had a friend who delivered a baby at a local hospital. Because she works in a hospital, the first thing she did was check out her room when she was admitted. She found bed bugs embedded in the seams of her mattress. She was moved immediately, but still.....yuck!

If you know anyone going to the hospital, a few tips:

Do not keep luggage there.

Bring the bare essentials.

If you find bed bugs, don't mess around. Only the pros can really get rid of them.

Any clothing you bring home, clean thoroughly and dry on high heat.

Hospitals are trying, and doing a good job of keeping things under control, but I guarantee you, every hospital in NKY/Cincy area is dealing with it.

As sterile as those places are and as often as they change the bedding, that is the last place I'd think they'd inhabit.

I have a lot of friends that work at hospitals. Bed bugs are every so don't be blind to it. They look like a red tick.

Well, you certainly won't find them in an operating room. However in patient rooms, it is really no different than hotel rooms. Lots of turnover, with lots of people staying there. A patient brings them in their personal belongings and they set up home.

Emergency rooms are really having a problem. Even greater turnover of people with no ability to try to screen for bed bugs before the patient is treated.

They say college dorms are the worst, so when your child comes home from the dorms - have the alcohol spray bottle ready and spray before they come in house

I had them a few years back and went through the same thing. I got bit and my wife never did. Depending on where they are at, they can be hard to see. Whether you take care of this on your own or have an exterminator come in, you will have to do the things that others have mentioned.

Bad news, it is still probably bed bugs.

We dealt with it last year. I had been getting bites like crazy but my wife had gotten none whatsoever that we could see. One night my wife was sitting on the bed with her laptop and she saw some bug crawl across the bed. Screaming for me I ran to the bedroom, grabbed the thing and threw it in the toilet. After looking at some images we were thinking it was probably a bed bug.

Our landlord had Black Diamond on contract so they came out to inspect the bedroom, lo and behold we had bedbugs. Not a huge infestation, but it was there. They told me that it turns out you could be bitten but not know it. You only get the red welts if you are actually allergic to the bites. I was allergic and she wasn't, even though we were both getting bitten I was the only one who showed it.

They treated the place and even said we could keep the bed as their treatment would have eliminated the problem (my wife insisted on throwing out the bed), and we have had no problems since then.

Sorry.
