September 16, 201214 yr I'm assuming they carry a weapon? Not sure that I trust someone with no police experience in the role. FWIW County Attorney, Commonwealths Attorney, Coroner, Constables, Jailer and Judges may also choose to carry gun with no police training. Also some court bailiffs have no formal firearms training either. But an elected Sheriff within a department of Certified Officers wouldn't concern me much from the point of them carrying a gun.

October 24, 201213 yr I may be wrong but I believe the sheriff's department in Campbell County is more of a tax collecting/administrative thing versus a law enforcement thing these days. I don't think a law enforcement background is necessary to be sheriff in Campbell County anymore. I heard the BS for many years and only the people without law enforcement backround want to continue with this policy. If I'm not mistaking, Campbell Co. is the only Sheriff's department in Kentucky that has this response when it comes to qualifications. WHY would you NOT want someone with a law enforcement backround? Democratic party went with a professional politician for years that hasn't had much sucess at anything except drawing a paycheck. Republicans ran someone who has been in the party many years as a elected constable that not allow to carry a gun. Its my understanding that they turndown two quality law enforcement canidates from their party. I don't know much about the NKU student that running against these two, but he has to have more going for him than these two canidates. At least he has the same law enforcement backround.
