Congratulations to Bowling Green on their victory tonight. From listening to the radio announcers, the Purples totally out-coached and out-played the Tigers. The X defense, which should be a pillar of strength, is playing totally out of kilter...missed tackles and horrible pass coverage. The X offense was so predictable, that Bowling Green could load the box with nine players and have no fear that X would run quick split-back traps, quick pop passes to the tight end, or screen passes to the backs. I really felt sorry for Charles Walker trying to run from a deep 1-back set against that smothering quick BG defense. Top all this off with far too many mental errors, which resulted in numerous penalties for the second week in a row. Wish the Tigers had a bye week next week so that they could totally regroup. Don't get me wrong, Bowling Green is an outstanding team, but even in a loss we should never look this bad.

I was just starting to believe all the post about the Tigers and then they go and lay this egg. Where is all this alleged speed on defense and the penalty fairy visits way too often. This tropical depression may just turn into a hurricane as Doss next week will do absolutely nothing to right the ship.... then Moeller, then Central, then.... Oh man... start piling the sandbags.

 

Hats off to a revamped BG team that dug themself a hole early but kept sticking it to the Tigers... 38 sticks to be exact. 86 points given up in the past two games... ouch.

We just got back home....WHAT A GAME!!!! IMO, X just did not look ready....They had some WONDERFUL plays and worked very hard as a team. BG was VERY ready for this game. The guys worked amazingly well as a team. Where there were some weakness in play, all the players took up the slack for that weakness....Like I stated in the prediction thread, these guys are very determined and can pull off the W everytime....Last year and this year has been amazing!!! The guys really watch out for each other, have heart, never give up, never stop, and are very determined.....I am very, very proud of these guys!!!! It is not all about winning....It is about teamwork, character, and heart. I would be just as proud of these guys had they not pulled off the W!!!! Way to go guys!

Please don't get down about this team...The Tigers did VERY well....Maybe it is not the fact that they "laid an egg", maybe it was the fact that the Purples willed themselves to win!!! We were there watching and the Tigers really made some GREAT plays. Don't count the X guys out so soon.

Avid Tiger, Long Time Reader, and Oxnard, thanx very much on behalf of the guys in Purple and Gold for recognizing their play and determination tonight. I know that they'll really appreciate your observations!

 

We were in our minivan underneath the stadium at the half listening to the local broadcast of the game. The statistics of both teams were amazingly similar. That told me that, if the guys could tough it out mentally in the second half, they had a real chance to pull off the upset. I met the guys as they were making their way to the field, and I told them that they could come back and win this game...it was not impossible! I have to give them all the credit, as they proved that they could be mentally tough and mature despite the fact that 18 of the 22 starters didn't start last year. The smaller and inexperienced lines on both sides of the ball did a creditable job against the much larger Tiger lines. I couldn't be more proud of them!:clap:

 

Again, I have to hand it to the St Xavier fans...I wished many of them luck as they filed into the stadium, and they were very friendly to me. I also wished a lot of the players luck as well, and some of them even swapped skin with me, as my guys do with me. I saluted some of them, and they returned that salute. And I got my wish...I was able to wish Mike Glaser luck and got to shake his hand before the game! I also got to meet a member of this website (the name escapes me) who told me that he really likes to read my posts...an ultimate compliment!:thumb:

 

And it was another memorable game, our fourth in a row in the series. I could not have hoped for better, as neither team deserved to lose. This game had everything except a safety. Our fans were not quiet for the entire game, even when we were ten points down. The BGHS side of the stadium where the students are just about came apart when Allen Gonsalves returned the interception for the final score of the game. We preserved an 18 game win streak overall and increased our home win streak to nine.

 

Next week, the Purples hit the road again at Henderson Co. The visiting team has never won in this series, which started my senior year (1976), when the Purples made the postseason for the first time ever in program history. Sic 'em, Purple!:thumb:

Yes they do. I think this L did more for this team than the win would've had done. It just shows them, its not going to be easy. they have to work for everything. As i congratulated X last week on their resiliency i must do the same to the purples; down 23-13 at half and outscoring X 25-8 in 2nd half is amazing. Congrats to the purples and goodluck down the stretch. X's defense lacks consistency and that is something that must be improved before Sept 28 or mainly the playoff matchup. X offense began sputtering right off the back in the 2nd half when there was no Gahaefer. Positives can be taken from this L though, to make the tigers a better team, and also this L will make them come together. Good Game overall though
