Which one of these teams was better?

 

82 was ranked # 24 in the very first USA Today poll. 92 was unranked. Saw them both and give the edge to 82 in spite of the size disparity on the lines.

92 team had almost all but the QB Dr. Adam Crawford playing ironman football. Only 35 guys on the team. I'd be willing to strap on the gear for a matchup! What do you say 35Bird? Ft Thomas EMS won't have enough wagons for all of us!

Who from the '82 and '92 teams are looking to come to this? Let us know so we can fill you in on the details. I know I have teammates who regularly read Bluegrass Preps but I don't know whether they are coming. We are really looking hard for juniors and sophomores from the '82 team.

 

You will most likely only see the Srs of those teams in attendance.

Sorta like a graduating class thingy.

 

Really hoping though to catch a glimps of the All Stater DT #51 Timmy Barth. Heard he is in such great shape that he could put the pads on right now and play.

Probably wont come though, I think he is a Conner guy now and has kids playing for Conner.

 

Besides, I think he was just a Jr on that '82 team. I think the '83 squad lost to Conner in the playoffs that yr and ended the Birds chances for what people thought was a for sure 3 Peat. :idunno:

EMS? Naw. Think Dobbling, Muehlenkamp-Erschell, etc. They are the ones who would run out of wagons.

You sure you would want to go there. When the 82 team were Frosh they were Undefeated, Unscored upon and nobody crossed the 50 yard line all year. The 82 team was truly a very special team! The 92 team was very dominant in it's own right but Adam Crawford would of been running for his life with Ted Abner and Mark Dierig coming off the corners on a Outside LB Blitz on every down. They were given the Green light to Blitz on every down that's how scary good their defense was.

I think we were 20th in USA Today and 24th by AP, but I am old and feeble-minded now and don't remember so good.

 

Regardless, a Bird on Bird game would be hard fought and fun to play in and/or watch.

I know if it were a smack talking fest that the 82 team would win hands down.

The 92 team was very dominant in it's own right but Adam Crawford would of been running for his life with Ted Abner and Mark Dierig coming off the corners on a Outside LB Blitz on every down. They were given the Green light to Blitz on every down that's how scary good their defense was.

 

Not only would you have to watch out for Abner and Dierig on the outside, you would have to commit at least 2 guys to Fischer in the middle. Now the run game is stopped and you have to pass and Kremer is "Standing" back there to pick it off. Only guy I know that played defense for 2 plus years in high school and maybe made 1 tackle. :clap: Though he did turn into a "tackling machine" 2 short years later in the SEC.

Carl "Skip" Hicks was the mastermind behind that great '82 defense.

He did give those guys alot of freedom to do what they wanted because most if all of them, already knew what he expected out them.

I think Fischer and Dougherty called the defense and guys like Abner, Dierig, Barth, Herrman, Cottingham, Ulbricht, Spritsky, Kremer and Abely took care of business. :notworthy:

 

I think Highlands had 6 or 7 All State Selections on that Defense. And that is back when there were only 4 classes.............:thumb:
