Can't speak of the Sophmores but as for Freshmen, if I were selecting a team it would look like this:

 

perimeter players:

1.) Sheena Giwa - HC - unquestionably the best in freshman class

2.) Mitch Shover - Cov. Cath. - best shooter in the group

3.) Josh Conner - Highlands - plays all positions and the toughest kid you'll find anywhere (ran the football for HHS varsity in state tourney)

 

post players:

1.) Matt Coffman - Campbell Co. - best post scorer & rebounder in freshman class

2.) Kurt Russell - Ryle - quiet kid, just gets the job done inside

 

I would fill out a ten man roster with:

1.) Steve McFarland - Boone Co. - great playmaker at the point

2.) Jayce Jordan - Conner - only knows one speed & direction - full speed at the rim

3.)Steve Helmer - Ryle - can shoot the three, drive the lane, 90+% FT shooter

4,)Pete Albrecht - Campbell Co. - 6'5" shot blocker and good defender

5.)David Darnell - Newport - 6'5" strong rebounder with a great shot

 

And that leaves out some great NKY. players like:

Luke Maille - Cov Cath. - strong all-around game

Jeramie Connor - Conner - streaky 3 pt. shooter who had 11 treys in AAU state tourney game last year

Absolutely correct. Didn't mean to slight him. He was very good while at Newport but I think he will flourish at HC. Tried to get him to play AAU with the guys mentioned above, but it just didn't work out.

Hillard is good he is just way to conservative.

St. Henry has a 3 really nice players this year. Not sure on first names.

1. Zumdick-F-Rebounder and goes to the whole well

2. Volz-F-Rebounds well also and is probably the best player they have.

3. Speed-PG-Good ballhandler, shoots FT well. His name fits his style of play.

Just finished watching the HHS-NCC frosh game. Josh Connor doesn't play the perimeter. He's an inside guy, plays hard, makes free throws. Handles the ball OK especially at the end of the game to get fouled. He never shot further than 3 feet from the basket. A solid player...but nowhere near the stud he is in FB. They should be playing him at the point cuz' I believe that's where he'll end up down the road...IF he stays with hoops.

He was a solid player last year when I saw him play (twice against HHS). But he did not impress me as the kind of player who would jump to JV level. Did he grow?? Or is he getting a "pass" because of his name?? Are CovCath underclassmen that weak?? Or maybe the kid worked his derrierre off in the off season and really blossommed (his old man was an early bloomer!) Good Luck to him !! I need to see him play again this year!
