  1. Wrong, they were led by Pete Albrecht with 16 points.
  2. Three seniors on the roster for Friday nights game. Andy Franzen should see a lot of playing time at guard, while Zeb Copley and Ryan Eten will backup Albrecht in the post. Senior Jordan Parks (last year's starting point guard) should be ready to play in about three weeks, and it seems senior shooting guard John Verst has been reinstated to the team. Camels should be a much better team with these last two additions, though I liked what I saw from the sophomore point guard in his first game. The extra depth and experience can't hurt.
  3. If I'm not mistaken, didn't Campbell Co. lose 11 seniors from last year's team? I think that leaves three returning players with any appreciable varsity experience. After Woodruff, what does their pitching look like? Hinkel and Dreyer got some innings last year, but that's about it.
  4. Camels lose 8-4 to Cov. Cath. Congratulations to the Colonels. Ryan Sainola pitched a very good game for Cov. Cath. Not a good night for Campbell Co. JV. Nine errors did them in. Not going to win many like that. They looked very much like the Camels Varsity of late.
  5. I have watched him play AABC ball in Southwest Ohio League for four years now. He definitely should be starting shortstop for Campbell Co. varsity next year. Good offensively, defensively, has good speed, and is a smart player. Pretty effective pitcher as well. I expect great things from him in the future.
  6. The Campbell Co. score was 70 to 55 over Harrison. Camels play Mason tonight at 7:00 at Mason Co.
  7. You are entitled to your opinion but the numbers don't lie. He's very consistent. He averages a double/double in scoring and rebounding not to mention his defensive game. He's a team player and a leader on the floor.
  8. He is the best catcher I have ever seen at the high school level, let alone as a freshman! And I would say the best freshman hitter as well.
  9. Tyler is quick, jumps out of his shoes, and can pull up and shoot from anywhere. He scored at least 35 of Calvary's 47 points against Campbell Co. Too bad he's not still a Camel. He was with Campbell Co. through the eighth grade before playing on "scholarship" his freshman season at Community Christian Academy in Independence. Transferred to Calvary Christian as a sophmore.
  10. Couldn't agree more. The Camels sophmore class is the most talented class to go through Campbell Co. in a long, long time. With returning juniors Kenny Walker and Noah Dischar and an excellent freshman class as well, coach Reitz should be expecting great things in the next few years. If freshman John Michael Reitz of Harrison Co. joins his father at Campbell Co., that gives the Camels one more quick guard who can hit from outside.
  11. Josh Lamping starts inside with Kurt Russell. Lamping is decent now and will only improve. Russell sometimes doesn't impress; he's not flashy. But at the end of the game you find that he has good numbers in points and rebounds. Keep in mind the list I posted was selection for a team, with complimentary skills being important. I've seen Russell many times with the NKy. Roar AAU team and he can play with all of the big boys in the state. It probably was Steve Helmer. He is the real deal. Sometimes overlooked on this team is Andy Ahern, who runs the point. He, too, can hurt you from the outside.
  12. Another Nky Post player Lambert from Pendleton averages 18 PPG and 20 PPG playing against Matt Coffman which they have met 3 times this season. Doug Lambert is a very good player for Pendleton, pretty much their whole team. He scored 12 points in the first of three lopsided losses to the Camels. Not sure what he scored in Friday and Saturday games, could have been 20 each game, I don't know. Campbell Co. bench played a lot of minutes in all three games as starters established quick 20+ point leads. Yesterday's game started out with a 20-2 Camel run. Again, Lambert is a very good player, but your facts aren't entirely accurate and are very misleading. To say he is 50% of Pendleton's offense and that he scored against a variety of Camel players (Coffman included) would better reflect what really happened. (Didn't mean to offend anyone with my initial list. Of course there are some really good players that didn't make my top ten. It is just my opinion after seeing current freshmen in school and AAU games over the last few years. Other very knowledgeable people would surely have different opinions.)
  13. Pat Nerl hit 5 of 6 threes tonight and finished with 21 points in leading Campbell County freshmen to a 55-39 victory over Pendleton County. Matt Coffman added 17 points and 8 rebounds.
  14. He played point guard for the Ky. Kings AAU team and did pretty well there. Agree football is his best sport .... unless you count baseball.
  15. Campbell Co. beat Scott Co. 55-40 in semi-finals in a very physical game. Got off to a rough start in the finals against Trinity and ended up losing by 14. You're right, they are a good group. No superstars, but they compliment each other well and are unselfish. Matt Coffman is good for 15 pts. and 10 boards. Kagan Gearhart adds about 14pts. per game. Pat Nerl also can put up some nice scoring numbers. Grant Rose runs the offense and distibutes the ball. Pete Albrecht is the newcomer to this group. At 6'5" and with a thick body, he is developing into quite a good player. He's the youngest of the group and far from done growing. I think his dad is 6'9" and he has a 6'2" 12 yr. old sister! There is also a nice group of kids to round out this team. Coach Maddy plays twelve guys every game.
  16. Absolutely correct. Didn't mean to slight him. He was very good while at Newport but I think he will flourish at HC. Tried to get him to play AAU with the guys mentioned above, but it just didn't work out.
  17. Can't speak of the Sophmores but as for Freshmen, if I were selecting a team it would look like this: perimeter players: 1.) Sheena Giwa - HC - unquestionably the best in freshman class 2.) Mitch Shover - Cov. Cath. - best shooter in the group 3.) Josh Conner - Highlands - plays all positions and the toughest kid you'll find anywhere (ran the football for HHS varsity in state tourney) post players: 1.) Matt Coffman - Campbell Co. - best post scorer & rebounder in freshman class 2.) Kurt Russell - Ryle - quiet kid, just gets the job done inside I would fill out a ten man roster with: 1.) Steve McFarland - Boone Co. - great playmaker at the point 2.) Jayce Jordan - Conner - only knows one speed & direction - full speed at the rim 3.)Steve Helmer - Ryle - can shoot the three, drive the lane, 90+% FT shooter 4,)Pete Albrecht - Campbell Co. - 6'5" shot blocker and good defender 5.)David Darnell - Newport - 6'5" strong rebounder with a great shot And that leaves out some great NKY. players like: Luke Maille - Cov Cath. - strong all-around game Jeramie Connor - Conner - streaky 3 pt. shooter who had 11 treys in AAU state tourney game last year My apologies to Mason Co. fans. I know you've got a great team but I'm not familiar with your players individually. (BTW, Arkansas Brewer of Newport, while a good player, does not come close to making this list.)
  18. originally posted by fanofthe11th Madison Central has some nice freshmen? Who are these kids? Has any freshman team in the 11th come close to them this year? What about Scott County? I'm sure they have a nice crop of freshmen. Madison Central freshman team did indeed look good at Lexington Catholic freshman tournament. They were, however, beaten by Scott Co. freshman team. Scott Co. freshman were then beaten by 15 points by the freshmen of 10th region Campbell County, led by Matt Coffman, Kagan Gearhart, Pat Nerl, Grant Rose, and 6'5" Pete Albrecht. I'm sure most have not heard those names before, but here's hoping you hear more about them in the future.
  19. Campbell County's Freshman, Matt Coffman at 6'2'' 175 lbs., held Ark to 6 pts. while he scored 15 against Ark.
