If they do it would be a first in recent memory. The last non-X person I can remember them hiring for anything was Jerry Mays as AD.

While I appreciate your intent I would say that really good coaches like to test themselves. This would be a great chance to show that he can run a program AND step into a program with resources unlike 99.9% of those in the state.

Seeing as how he's not being terminated I would have to says it' voluntary, I get where you're coming from, but why go there and he did have to retire at some point.

First, I want to say,this is no way a knock on Glaser. He's obviously done some very good things at St. X, and seems to be very well respected around the X community. To last at a school like X this long, he obviously has some very commendable qualities.

 

That said, I think X has a chance to do what Trinity did several years ago when they hired Beatty; find someone who can take the program to another level. Conduct a nationwide search and try like heck to hit a home run.

 

In watching X play, albeit it not very often, over the years, the Tigers program seemed to be caught in a rut almost. Granted a rut most schools in Ky. would love to be in, but lacking something. I just never came away overwhelmed after watching them play.

 

Felt the same way about Trinity for years, until they hired the current coach. X and T are going to be almost anyone in Ky. most years solely on talent and depth, but T is at a whole different place now. X has a chance to make the same leap with this hire.

What I didn't want to do is put X supporters in a defensive mode with my post. I acknowlege it is and has been a trademark program in the state for many years. It will continue to be. And, I hope this year's X team is great because it will make for better drama during the season.

 

Nothing I said was meant as a knock on X. Just my views as someone from outside the program.

I, for one, would not have a problem with Coverdale, and think he would be a good choice.. He has some head coaching experience which I think is a must for this position.

I am concerned about staying within. We do seem to stay within the X community for our head coaches...you either played there, coached there, or both.

I have a feeling that Coverdale knows he is the next Trinity coach.
