Covington Catholic/ Ryle Scrimmage (Frosh)

Featured Replies

Great story in Union.

A kid I've known since he was born, Jacob Lamping, was the team manager a few years ago. Now Coach Warner is saying he will contribute and loves to hit people on the field.

Nice story about a nice kid.

Jacob is a great young man. He has been on the Ryle sidelines since the 06 season (ball boy) when his brother was playing for Ryle. As far the numbers for Ryle last week I counted upper 60's for varsity and jv. But I thought for sure I counted in the mid 40's for freshman.

Who won the Varsity scrimmage? I heard it was 0-0 in the 3rd quarter?

14-0 cch, all 2nd team / jv scoring.

both defenses looked pretty good, offenses not so much.

Any other summaries?

Did TOG not go to this? I need an update.

Re: the frosh, I was told the CCH frosh were "very average" and that they have a lot of work to do.

That shouldn't be a surprise.

Any other summaries?

CovCath moved the ball, but 4 turnovers will kill.

The defense showed why they are one of the best in NKY,I think Ryle only crossed mid-field twice.

CovCath's second/JV looked very good, they have very good QB in Soph. Adam Wagner.

The JV scored in 3 of the 4 times they had the ball, including the halftime play.

The defense also looked very good.

Talking to some of the kids yesterday and after reviewing the films, they where not as disappointed as they where after game.

Spot on with the comments above.

The team was indeed disappointed in not scoring, but after 3 fumbles, 1 Int and a couple of stupid penalties by both the CovCath "D" and "O" it was what it was, a scrimmage game.

Nothing in this game worried me, as there wasn't any glaring problems that need huge fixes prior to the Campbell County game. The fumbles were what they were, the first hits by someone other than a CovCath teammate trying to take the ball away from the player!

There were no RB's running into each other, no mega missed blocks putting the QB in harms way. There was no blown coverage by the "D" nor and this is the most important aspect of a scrimmage game, no one got hurt.

Dressman (who only kicked/punted) and Fangman both didn't play, will be 100% for the Campbell County game next week!

Ryle "D" is very good and will help the Radiers win games this season.

#94 for Ryle impressed me a ton! Congrats young man, nice game indeed!

Both teams play good D. Both teams very vanilla on offense for the scrimmage. Both teams had their feature running back held out. Both teams will have very good seasons. Both teams benefitted from playing a good opponent in a scrimmage. Bir is a heckuva QB and Davis is very quick and will get a lot of yards scrambling when the games count. Best wishes to the Blue Colonels for a very successful and injury free season.

Are you sure? Those numbers sound shockingly low to me. I would have expected 100+ on JV/Varsity and 50+ on Freshman.

I was wrong on freshman numbers for this year, its more like mid 40's, I counted while watching the scrimmage. Last years squad had around 40 so the numbers are up a little but, as you can see they lost a fair amout of the sophmore class.

My appologies.

Where are the Ross brothers?

The Ross brothers are at Ryle. Chase is in the 8th grade playing freshman and Logan is going to be a Sophomore this year. From what I am told, both are doing really well.
