For me, the AK is an advanced piece of weaponry. I'm the guy who is for some gun control but I do believe some guns should only be available for use by the military. I want a gun or guns to defend my home. If I need an AK to defend my home then I should probably look into moving. It just seems like a big gun to have if you're not going to be killing anyone with it.

Let me make a point here on the high capacity argument. Guns aren't death rays, shooting someone isn't as easy as people think even for trained professionals. Factors like lighting, adrenalin, distance, your target moving are going to come into play. Studies show that police trained professionals hit their target about 30 percent of the time. 10 rounds might not do the average guy/gal much good. IMO, when your life or your loved ones is on the line, you can never have too many bullets.

They may not stop mass shooting attacks but I do think we need to find a way to make these guns involved in these attacks a lot harder to purchase at the very least. It's too easy for any Joe Schmo to purchase an arsenal and go on a killing spree.

1. Just wondering what they meant by the right to bear arms. I wouldn't be opposed to the ban of guns such as the AK-47. I wonder if they were around now would they say had they known about guns such as this of they would have banned them. It's not like guns like the AK-47 could be bough when they wrote the constitution.

 

2. I say that about the 14th because of all of the voter ID issues going on. Some of the staunchest supporters of the 2nd amendment are satisfied with how the voter ID situations. Just seems like an oxymoron to me. People will be for what works for their ideals.

I'm quite sure the Founding Fathers never meant for the amendment process to be for every little thing. But maybe the amendment process was for what they could not foresee, this being one of them.

I know the process in today's climate would most likely never allow for such an amendment for restricting gun ownership to pass. Yet if an overwhelming number of people wanted such an amendment, it could happen someday.

I just don't think it is hard enough on people who want guns. IMO it shouldn't be that easy for my buddy to buy a high powered sniper rifle to shoot coyotes. I'm definitely not for banning guns but I am willing to try anything to prevent the next mass shooting from happening. Whatever that may be.

a) All freemen were assumed and expected to be 'armed'. Weapons were a standard item in the household.

b) There was no standing national army. Why? They just defeated a nation that had and abused its standing army in their view. There was very strong resistance to any standing army. Standing armies are almost always used to attack other countries or as enforcement against a native population. That mostly remains true today.

c) When the nation went to war to DEFEND itself - the only reason the FF thought a national effort would be needed. States sent militias. See the make up on units in the Civil war. All organized by state.

d) The owners and ultimate defenders of the Constitution is - "the People". How can the owners and defenders of the foundation of the government do their role if they are deprived of the means to do so?

You can't prevent it. You can have an all out total ban of all guns tomorrow and it will still happen again. You guys need to understand how many guns are out there at this point. It is absolutely impossible to prevent crazy people from doing crazy things. I wish it weren't, but that is reality. Again, as has been explained ad nauseum, gun bans and gun control only affect law abiding citizens. It will never affect a criminal or an insane idiot.

I gotta tell you, I blame guys like Obama and the media for spreading the hyperbole about guns like AK-47s. First off, it's painfully obvious they don't even take the time to understand the guns they're talking about. If they did they would realize the AK-47 they're speaking of is a semi-auto copy of the military one that they actually think they're talking about. It's no different (in many cases not as powerful) than most other hunting rifles he/they claim they support. They need to educate themselves, unless they know but have an agenda to begin with.

I just feel like by saying it'll happen again regardless is a defeatist attitude to take. We have to try something, right?
