I wish we could go back in time and see what our fore fathers had in mind when they wrote the 2nd amendment.

 

 

I do find it interesting that there is a huge voice for the preservation of the 2nd amendment but when it comes to the 14th amendment a lot of the same who want the 2nd amendment preserved are against the 14th being preserved in the exact same manner.

For me, the AK is an advanced piece of weaponry. I'm the guy who is for some gun control but I do believe some guns should only be available for use by the military. I want a gun or guns to defend my home. If I need an AK to defend my home then I should probably look into moving. It just seems like a big gun to have if you're not going to be killing anyone with it.

Not everyone buys guns to defend their home. Many are shooting enthusiasts and the AK and other military style rifles are top of the list for such people. You'd also be surprised at how many use military style rifles for hunting purposes. You may also be surprised to know that many average hunting rifles are more deadly.

Let me make a point here on the high capacity argument. Guns aren't death rays, shooting someone isn't as easy as people think even for trained professionals. Factors like lighting, adrenalin, distance, your target moving are going to come into play. Studies show that police trained professionals hit their target about 30 percent of the time. 10 rounds might not do the average guy/gal much good. IMO, when your life or your loved ones is on the line, you can never have too many bullets.

The round an AK-47 fires is 7.62 x39 mm (wide and long), a .308 round used commonly in hunting is 7.62 x 51mm. Same diameter but longer and with more powder AND longer range. How is one gun's round inherently more dangerous than the other?

 

Considering the AK was also designed in 1947 it is far from an advanced piece or weaponry, it is just an effective and reliable one that was cheap to mass produce.

Interesting you should say that. I had an after work beer and appetizer with a gun enthusiast buddy of mine and was telling him my plans to take the Concealed Weapons class in September. We got to talking guns and he should me a picture of all of his guns. I know he has an AR-15 and a high powered sniper rifle he said is used in the military but he uses it to hunt coyotes. I laughed and said 'you hunt coyotes?' He looked at me like I was crazy and said, 'yeah I hunt coyotes'. :lol:

I have 3 friends that have AR-15's and when I got mine the first thing one of them said is you'll have to come over the next time we go Coyote hunting...... And just like that I knew I was part of a wolf pack, I mean ummmmm, guns are cool.

They may not stop mass shooting attacks but I do think we need to find a way to make these guns involved in these attacks a lot harder to purchase at the very least. It's too easy for any Joe Schmo to purchase an arsenal and go on a killing spree.
