That's impressive, now this may be a stupid question so forgive me but can you miss one or two questions and still get a 36? I know you said a 36 is perfect so is that really the case or is a 36 just the highest you can score?

Read on a website that there were only 705 scores of 36 in 2011.

We had a football game the night before and didn't get back to the school until after 1 am. Needless to say a quick survey of the room and you could tell which test takers were at the game.

 

Clyde any idea on where the young man wants to go to school? Pretty sure that ACT score means he won't have to pay a penny any where he goes.

As I've had it explained to me, there is a slight curve put on ACT scores (it changes year to year). They curve the individual sections - English, Math, Science, and Reading - and then they average the four section scores together and apply a curve once again. Depending on the curve for the year, sometimes the only way to get a 36 in a sub-section is to answer all questions correctly, and sometimes you can get a 36 with one incorrect answer. Likewise, sometimes a 35 is one incorrect, sometimes it's two incorrect, and on more rare occasions, it can be obtained with three incorrect. 34 you can sometimes have upwards of five incorrect answers.

 

So, then once the sub-scoring is completed, it's possible to obtain an overall ACT score of 36 with sub-score combinations of 36-36-36-36, 36-36-36-35, 36-36-35-35, or 36-36-36-34. Put simply...you can miss a few questions on the test and still come away with a 36, but not many at all.
