If Your House Was Burning, What Would You Take With You?

Featured Replies

I've been asked this a few times over the years, and I ALWAYS struggle to answer it. I'm thinking about it right now though. Let's hear yours...

A cool visual project though:

The Burning House

If your house was burning, what would you take with you? It's a conflict between what's practical, valuable and sentimental. What you would take reflects your interests, background and priorities. Think of it as an interview condensed into one question.

I understand the practical, and the sentimental, why the valuable?

How many things can I bring?

I'd say as much as you can gather and get out of your house without assistance in a 5 minute time period?

My Wife, Kids (If I have any at the time), animals and my phone. All pictures we have are backed up. We have a fire proof save that I assume would survive the blaze with all important documents and money. Everything else can be replaced. I would also try to get car keys.

Other than making sure my family gets out safe, I can't think of anything I'd take with me. I don't have any valuable or sentimental things that I can't just replace.

If I had a briefcase of Franklins stashed somewhere, I think there's a good chance I'd try to grab that on my way out. For the most part, though, I'm with you...I don't know of many financially valuable things I'd go for.

Family and animals would be the first ones out. No question. That would take 10 seconds tops.

So.....I'd grab our dog leashes and toss them to my wife.~ 10 seconds

I'd grab all of the iPhone chargers(3) because all of us would have our iPhones in our hands already. ~60 seconds

PS3....no way I wait for the insurance to replace that.~30 seconds

TV and all of the necessary PS3 cords.~30-90 seconds

PS3 controllers and MW2~10 seconds

Car keys~5 seconds

Water~10 seconds

Whatever Bud Light, Pepsi and Simply Raspberry Lemonade is in the house-30 seconds.

I think that'd do me.

I think you might be over estimating how calm you would be if your house is on fire.

Not worth it to grab any possession, get your family and yourself out as quickly as you can. Staying even only five minutes to grab something, isn't worth your life!

My guess is we have some firemen on BGP's who just might tell you have quickly a fire can spread!

Simba and I'm sure my iPhone because it's always beside me.

Having been in the situation before we got my brother, my Mom, our dog Coco, and I out. That's it.
