With all the uproar over missed calls recently, dropped foul ball, flying double play, botched perfect game call LY...where is the outrage on Balls and Strikes being missed every inning?

 

I hate it when they say that this ump calls such and such strike zone which is different from yesterday's ump.

 

Technology exist to instantaneously call balls and strikes based on pitch location. Is it time to put this in place?

Game would move faster with auto calls, both pitchers and batters would know what a strike was going to be.

Game would move faster with auto calls, both pitchers and batters would know what a strike was going to be. A great pitcher can hit an outside corner for a strike that rarely gets called correctly now. Hitters wouldn't have to worry about getting bad calls and having to protect against the pitcher and the umpire.

1. Claims of tampering with the system.

2. Human element is a part of the system and it should be part of the system.

3. Next will be safe and out calls by camera.

 

 

There's nothing wrong with the game.

Get rid of the catcher position and add one of those wiffle ball pvc/net strike zones. In the basket or on the pvc is an automatic strike, no questions about it.

If a camera is off slightly due to wind, not being adjusted correctly...etc., you're talking about pitches being called strikes that are not strikes and there's nothing anyone can do about it. At the end of the day if they come back and say it wasn't calibrated, was offline, had a smudge on the camera...etc., that's one time too many. That would have way too much of a negative impact because of 4-5 calls per game.

1. Has there been issues with this in other sports, tennis uses similar technology to call balls in or out, has there been widespread tampering calls?

2. I agree the human element should be part of the game, but in too many cases the mood of the UMP that day decides where the strike zone is. Personal issues from the past effect strike zones for different pitchers and batters if they have a history with that Ump. This is one thing that is rediculously bad with baseball that can be fixed almost instantly without the human element or perceptions being involved.

That would be better than a computer doing it.

Why not put in high tech pitching machines that can throw 100 mph, that can throw 90 mph sliders on the black, the machine would throw no balls. Games would be over in less than 2 hours. Owners wouldn't have to pay for pitchers. Payrolls would go way down. Tickets would become more affordable ,

Why is #3 a stretch? If your argument is you want proof that a call was right or to remove the problem of incorrect calls it's no different than balls/strikes.

One difference is that there is technology right now today that could call balls/strikes without slowing the game down any.

You don't think Umps miss that many strike calls now? As far as the cameras being off, I'm not talking about using the TV Cameras as they are always skewed to the side. You need two cameras, the one looking straight down that you never hardly see anymore due to Umpires Union Complaints, to call if it is over the plate or not. Then one camera set to the side to call high or low.

They are not playing video games, they are playing a live game with live people and they should have live umpires. Imo this idea is totally ridiculous.
