Is it time for automated Ball/Strike calls?

Featured Replies

The system is there to back up the judges in tennis, or that is my understanding. I'm not suggesting getting rid of Umps, just fixing the most missed call in baseball.

MLB already uses this system to grade out their umpires, so it must be working or the umpires union would go nuts!

Wimbledon uses the judges then the video for challenges. Each player gets 3 per set or something like that.

I guess you didn't pick up on my sarcasm.

just think this kind of thread doesn't even deserve any merit.

I am completely confused by anyone that argues for the human element. There would need to be adjustments obviously but I would love for a computer to call balls and strikes.

Sorry this question and discussion isn't up to your standards...
Why doesn't tennis use their system for every call if it's so accurate?

They do for tournaments big enough to have them but only on most of the main courts, you just have to challenge the call. You do realize one pitch compared to a long rally makes it a lot different too right?

Most of the calls during a long rally aren't even close anyway.

Exactly so every shot is called in or out by the computer. They just have a rule that the player has to challenge bad calls because that's easier.

Then what's the point of the judges?

Why not just let the players call their own lines and if there's a dispute go to the camera?

If we can get Bob Davidson to retire it would greatly reduce the need for this:dancingpa
