July 2, 201214 yr OK...if you still smoke these days knowing the consequences, your choice....... However......I am sick and tired of driving behind someone and having butts hit my car because smokers think butts aren't littering. Keep it in the car........ Pull up to any intersection and while you are stopped, look around on the ground.......butts all over the place....same with in front of any store. As soon as they name me Czar of the Earth (or at least my little corner of it)....if you get caught throwing a butt on the ground, instead of a ticket, you will spend 2 hours in 101 degree heat picking up the butts....BY HAND....you don't get to use those cool pick up devices..... How would you feel if I pulled in front of you and threw out all of the paper from my drive through visit and it hits your car.......same thing....

I agree with you on this this... but it's only the same thing if they throw a bag of cigarette butts at you. I always wondered why this was never enforced.
July 2, 201214 yr I agree with everything that was said. People don't seem to ever think twice about throwing butts on the ground. Then again, how can you expect people who have a dirty habit to be clean. The answer is, I do expect it. I would never intentionally throw anything on the ground. I do not smoke (I have respect for my body) and I do not litter.

July 2, 201214 yr The majority of smokers I come across believe they are exempt from anything. There are NO SMOKING signs posted everywhere on the campus of the hospital where I work. Smokers ignore them all the time. They even gather right in front of the entrance to the ER. The security staff has to run them off all the time. They sure as heck aren't going to worry about throwing their butts out their cars.
July 2, 201214 yr As a non-smoker, that is one of my pet peeves as well. Why do they even put ash trays in cars if most if not everyone throws them out.
July 2, 201214 yr The smokers throw the butts out of the window because their car will stink if they leave them in there? I guess it should be our issue not theirs! I once had an 800 number for people who littered. The state would send them a nice note telling them not to litter. I used to call all the time. Also had one as a reminder for those that did not have kids locked up in car seats. Still mad at the wife for dropping my phone in the lake.
July 2, 201214 yr Even when I smoked, and folks I smoked a lot, I never threw my butts out of the window and never put them out on the ground, either.
July 2, 201214 yr Author Even when I smoked, and folks I smoked a lot, I never threw my butts out of the window and never put them out on the ground, either. I've never met a smoker....or former smoker.....that EVER admitted that they did. It was always those other dirty smokers.

July 2, 201214 yr Author I take Swamprat at his word. No reason for him to lie. He didn't have to tell us he was once a smoker. Mine was a general comment.....Swamprat no disrespect intended.......we just need to find that one heavy chain smoker and frequent traveller that is doing all of the littering....
July 2, 201214 yr I used to smoke and I never used my ashtray in my car. I used my ashtray for spare change and I hated the way a car smelled with a full ashtray. I don't smoke anymore though and now I can hardly stand the smell of cigarettes at all. Weird how that works.
July 2, 201214 yr Yeah people love coming up to the window where I work blowing cigarette smoke in my face. Then what kills me is they'll turn around and flick the butt into our parking lot. Who do they think has to pick their crap up? This guy... Trashy people tick me off.
July 2, 201214 yr Over the years at the Rest Area and Welcome Center on 75/71 in Boone County and now at the Boone County Parks I have had to deal with these idiots. It bothers them none when after just picking up hundreds of butts laying on the ground, they just throw more down more right in front of you and when you look at them, they just tell you and I quote this BTW "If it weren't for me, you wouldn't have a job"! I have been standing next to a Florence Police Officer at the Rest Area and we watched as people would just empty their ash tray on the ground and I would look at the Florence Cop and just ask why he didn't say anything and his answer? "It isn't worth my time" and I guess he was right but......I hate them........

After all, he was just standing there. I didn't know selective enforcement was an option (and yes, I know that is naive of me).
