Lucas out at Lloyd???

Featured Replies

Roy would do a fine job at Beechwood, he almost took SK to the playoffs and did a good job at Lloyd.

Roy would do a fine job with the Tigers. He was there when we won all those state titles in the 90's. I'm sure he learned a lot from Yeagle and his dad Roy Sr.

Quick I think you are hiding some things you are not telling us. Come on now you say you are a coach at Beechwood but you don't know anything. That is hard for me to believe. I saw John Murray last week sitting with Chris Wera. He said he doesn't know anything about the Head Coaching job. You people know more than what your telling. I totally understand that. But diehard Beechwood fans and former players want to know who the new coach is just like everyone is does. It is Jan 7. They are going through winter weights right now without a head coach. I would think that doesn't help them at all right now.

I just broke the situation down for you--if you don't believe it or like it--I am sorry. But if Lucas couldn't get to the big game at Lloyd--he isn't even going to have a chance to get to it at Beechwood. Again--1a is much tougher than 2a. And--he has had at least a couple teams with better talent.

I have no obligation (and neither does Coach Murr) to tell anyone anything. The application deadline was yesterday--how or why would you expect either one of us to have a clue who the coach is going to be?

I told you and everyone else before--this isn't a DONE DEAL on any level. The administration is handling this correctly and fairly for everyone involved. And again--we have no obligation to give out any information in the first place. Did it ever occur to you guys that we want it to be a fair process too?

Lucas is a very good coach. I find it somewhat surprising that he is being immediately dismissed as a possibility. I am not saying that Beechwood should hire Lucas since I don't know the list of candidates, However, some real heavyweights would have to apply, and maybe some have, before I would dismiss Lucas so quickly.

I am not dismissing anyone. The process will be carried out in the right manner. I am not on the committee, I am not the principal. I have no bearing on the process at all.

I am giving my personal opinion (which is what this site is supposed to be about--Right?). If you guys think he is a great coach--that is your right. I am going off his record--which, in my opinion, fell way short of where it should have been based off of the talent on the field. Injuries or no injuries (this year isn't the first where they have fallen short of expectations), that is the way I see it. I know he is a good man and that he has done a lot of good things. But that doesn't cut it at a place like Beechwood.

Actually, in your opinion, you are. I thought last year you said you were at Conner? I guess you moved in the off season. It always amazes me how much people from elite programs such as a Beechwood or Highlands expect out of a potential coaching candidate (ie.. win loss and championship titles) when choosing a new coach. If titles and overachieving are the main qualification for coaching candidates then the list of acceptable candidates are going to be short. I think Lucas would do well at Beechwood. He has never had the resources to do more than he has IMO. He gets the most out of what he has. Could his defenses have performed better? With the talent level that would be afforded to him at Beechwood I feel the answer is absolutely yes.

I personally dismiss him as the right person for this job. Does that make it easier for you to understand? I was VERY CLEAR. My personal opinion is that his past performance proves that he is not the right candidate. I didn't say that my opinion was any better than anyone else's. As I said before--I am not involved in the process--therefore my opinion means just about as much as yours does.

You would think that you guys would at least read the post before you respond to it.

I get what your saying, but as a PRESENT COACH OF THE BEECHWOOD FOOTBALL TEAM you have to understand that any stance you take personally will be construed as an insight to the overall thoughts or feelings about any such candidates by the decision making body. You know people, have more info, and thus to a certain extent, any view you express seems to be a possible echo of the people who are making decisions, thus people are naturally going to read more into your posts than you wish even if you post a disclaimer. Your are the reporter who is so close to the situation that you've become the story. If it were me, I would keep quiet and let people wallow in ignorance about the process. What does it matter if some Lucas supporters want to toot his horn. If you are correct and he doesn't get it, good for you, if your wrong and he does, well I might want to start looking for a new coaching position.

I work with Coach Lucas's wife on occasion. I will see if I can dig anything up next week.

Again--I understand what you are saying and everything makes sense.

I have sat back for the past 2 months and posted nothing. And yes--I put a whole lot of thought into whether or not I was going to post anything. The only reason why I decided to post in the first place was because there are entirely too many people who are insinuating that the process isn't going to be conducted in a fair manner.

When I went outside of that--I went too far. From here, I will take your advice and keep my mouth shut for the remainder of the process.

I am not as cynical as most and believe that a program such as Beechwood even if they do pick one of the present coaches, will only do so after a fair and unbiased interview process. I have never been apart of any such process, but know quite a few who have, and there is nothing but the best of intentions involved. Is there politics involved? There always is, but a lot less than most people think. Whoever is picked will be the best fit for Beechwood and a very good coach. Of that I am sure.

Agreed. And--even if it is someone that I don't necessarily is the best person--I trust that the committee will make the right decisions for the right reasons. It is a solid group of people--and it is definitely conceivable that they know more than me.

Now--back under the radar . . . .

Where did Mac Cooley leave Lloyd to go? Is it for a coaching position somewhere else? He's a stand up guy, and will do great wherever he goes...or with Neerfan's comment about Mac being a family man, is he getting out of coaching to devote more time to his family?

Bring a NKY football fan transplanted to the paying side of the river up to speed fellas!

Roy will do a great job if given the opportunity at Beechwood...

I heard he left to be with his family...

Gametime is correct Coach Cooley left to spend more time with his kids and to raise his family. From what I have heard he will still teach just not coach at the present time. I wish him the best he is really a great young man and I am very glad I was able to work with him. JD

Coach Lucas announced to the Lloyd team, during weight lifting, that he IS returning to coach this fall. Straight from the coaches mouth!!! :dancingpa
